Latest Updates:
Markov - knee - not expected back before All-Star break per Gauthier

Gionta - bicep tear - underwent surgery Jan. 11 - out indefinitely

Gionta underwent successful surgery to repair a tear in the right biceps. He will be out indefinitely. The surgery was performed earlier today in Montreal.

Captain Brian Gionta won’t accompany the team to Boston after suffering an upper-body injury in Tuesday night’s game against the Blues. Injured center Scott Gomez has not yet been cleared by the medical staff but he will make the trip to Boston.

Ryan White is still skating alone with Canadiens strength and conditioning coach Pierre Allard but is hoping to join his teammates on the ice for practices in the near future.

“I hope so. It’s getting boring out there just me and Petey,” joked White. “I feel pretty good but I don’t feel 100% and I don’t feel I’m back where I need to be. It’s going the right way and I’m feeling better than I was last week and I just want to keep that going the right way.”

It'll be interesting to see how RC works the lines/roster with Gomer back.

Andy, I am chilled, you were the one poking fun at others who disagreed or were over reacting. Seems they may have been a little more in touch then you gave them credit for.

It wasn't about being in touch, it was about being patient and waiting for info. Markov saw the doctor yesterday and we got info today like Martin had said.

But you do need to relax, you're too obsessed with my posts, I suggest you take a break for a while, obsessions aren't healthy.

There was no doubt that the signing was risky, it'd be foolish to think otherwise. I'm still glad that they done it though. What I wasn't happy about was not building a better overall defence core. Right now you can argue we got 2 top-4 dmen, we should of had more to compensate for the risk. And if Markov comes back playing like he can than the Habs just have an even stronger defence core. There were too many question marks.

Apparently his knee was fine to play, but they wanted to take precaution and get this minor surgery out of the way.

I don't think anyone would have a problem if Goats was just honest and said he didn't know when Markov was coming back (even if he was given a timetable). Should have just said. We expect him back sometime this year and left it at that. When you start giving timetables and pushing them back it creates what we have now.

This would be yet a third doctor to perform a surgery on Markov's knee. I find that bothersome I guess.

I dont believe that markov's career is over, but his knee does remind me of kovalev's situation.

I remember kovalev having "maintenence" surgeries on his knee multiple times. I'm no doctor but I wonder if markov will have the same type of procedures for the rest of his career.

lol The reaction over the Markov news is hilarious. There are people who think this is great news (Brian Wilde, CTV) & others who are ready to hang Gauthier because of it.

The signing of Markov was always risky & it hasn't worked out in our favour, but then it wouldn't be called a "risk" if the chances of it coming out in our favour was high. It wouldn't be a risk at all then. If Markov has to retire then so be it. His contract is forfeited under those circumstances. Players don't get paid for being retired, so why people are freaking out about that fact....

The only problem I had with the Habs signing Markov was that it was for 3 years instead of 2. Not signing Wiz to a ridiculous 6-year contract was also the way to go.

Our PP sucks, but overall I like how our young D is developing especially Emelin. And, if the Habs do slide, well, this is a good year to do it because it's a solid draft. The worse thing that could happen to us is that Markov comes back too late to help us earn a playoff spot, but improves us enough to finish 9th. I would be pissed at that. Markov missing the season - so be it. The Habs should be better anyway when Campoli & Spacek get back.
