"Teams cannot circumvent the salary cap by paying players through other means - such as gifts, reimbursements on expenses, personal deals, money redirected through related corporate entities, separate contracts for marketing and promotion, etc."

Leblanc's salary is 900k, he can earn up to 300k in bonuses. He need to reach the conditions to get that extra money

Leblanc get paid for the time he is with the team. If im not wrong he get paid for 20 days (minimum)(regular season is 185 days). which is about 100K for him. Am I wrong?
interesting...

though I imagine it's one of those things that regularly gets circumvented & that no one really turns an eye to.

Not hard for a multi-millionaire owner , with lots of friends in lots of places, to quietly arrange for something like two airline tickets a few nights hotel to get paid for "off the team books", and not something the league (or other teams around the league) would spend any time chasing down and exposing.

bit different than flying out the entire roster's family for a sunny destination vacation

nope, nothing wrong with it at all, in fact it's a great gesture, as I pointed out.

but it's a gesture more or less the equivalent of buying the new guy at your work lunch (assuming you aren't in the 7-figure salary range)... nice, but not really news-worthy.

guess it's a slow news day? or perhaps as Habs fans we've sunk low enough that we any kind of feel good story to brighten our otherwise somber moods

Those lines are not bad. Although Cammy and DD on the same line is very risky defensively. But they've been hot lately so keep them together.

Gionta has 0g 1a +/- -10 in his last five games... maybe Pacioretty can open up some space for him when he comes back but I think AK can provide better offense on the first line instead of Gionta. Plus he's got good chemistry with both Plekanec and MaxPac.

A 33$ lunch by yourself to the new guy is pretty generous (assuming base salary of 50k) :

$3,000/$4,500,000 = 0.00066666 * $50,000 = $33.33

But you are right, not news worthy unless it's Habs players

His parents are filthy rich anyway.

In fact a lot of players parents are 'rich'.

You said it yourself...it's a feel good story. I'm a TV producer, working for a news show, and I can tell you that if I was able to show that story to the people, I would. It's a human story. We know Cole as the speedy power forward, but we don't know him as the person he is outside the ice. Cole and the Habs touches a lot of hearth...that's why it's an interesting story.

I don't see how anyone can be disappointed with Leblanc. He won't be a star, but he wasn't drafted to be one. He has definitely impressed me in these two games. I don't think he's ready for full-time duty in the nhl, but for a player who hasn't played much in the ahl, he certainly isn't that far away.

I think he'll definitely be a top 9 forward, hopefully his development goes well and he can improve his offensive instincts to be top 6.

@ Kimota...He's definitely not as soft as Tanguay. But his skating style and puck handling is very reminiscent.

People always forget that the guy played for four different teams, under four different head coaches, with four sets of teamates in the last four years. The Habs are his 5th team ! + He had two pretty serious injuries. And he studied at College level on top of that.

When Tanguay was with the Habs I was surprised that he wasn't as soft people said he was. He didn't mind getting in traffic and so forth.

That's true, but he did shy away from contact on the boards, something which Leblanc isn't afraid of, actually he excels along the boards.

Well said.

Like I mentioned, I don't think any should expect him to be a superstar, but it doesn't mean he sucks if he doesn't score 100 points.

I see a Chris Higgins type of player in him, let's just hope he has a better head and doesn't get down on himself to quickly like Higgins did.

I think his development was slowed down a bit from the extra year in the USHL and the year at Harvard, but he should still be an NHL player. Maybe even a 2nd line player.

Not just any college, but at Harvard. "Hi, my name is Louis, I'm a Harvard man. Oh, and did I mention I play for the Habs?" That might just be the best pick-up line in Montreal.

Any doubt is resolved. Leblanc is clearly better than Palushaj. Goodbye Aaron.

I doubt Leblanc still stick around much longer. But the little we have seen of him is promising. Maybe he can stick around next time.

He is certainly more suitable to a two-way game, and more agressive in the puck chase.

Palushaj is AHL material.

But Leblanc will probably be sent back to Hamilton before the next Habs game.

I am sure the Habs brass don't want to have a local boy on the ice in front of fans and the medias looking for the next great French-Canadian Idol.

I love what I've seen, but I still dont think the guy is ready and there is no need to rush him.
