Thru 23 games, McDonagh has 13 points. He is on pace for 46 points if he plays all 82 games. Great stuff!

His lateral movement on the blue-line is even better than it was in college. Its the reason for quite a few of his points as he is able to use that movement to get shots through to the net creating rebounds and goals.

I think he need to be more selfish sometimes, seems to me he passes up shots on the PP sometimes.

I think he just doesn't like shooting on the PP unless he's totally set.

I think that is what separates Girardi, Sauer and McDonagh from Staal. Staal seems to have problems with moving laterally on the point and keeping his head up. Rozsival had the same problem.

The shot doesnt have to be 100mph, it just has to get to the net. Force the goalie to make a save and control the rebound. I think it is also the reason for many of the Rangers forward now driving to the net on a more consistent basis. They know the puck will find its way there which creates chances and havoc in front of the other teams net.

Absolutely. It has a lot to do with his stick as well. He's much more comfortable rushing the puck as opposed to stick handling at the point.

Can't believe his hit the iron twice in two games, both great shots too

Can anyone explain why the Habs got rid of him for so little in return? I know they wanted Gomez to shore up their 2nd line, but why McD? What had he done as a former 1st rounder that made them sour on him so much? thanks

With Defensemen it's always the little things. MCD does many of them extremely well. Slowly, other parts of his game are emerging that could put him in elite territory down the line a season or two.

I will never be able to thank Gainey enough.

I don't think there will ever be an explanation that will prove adequate. If he did not progress an once past where he is as a player today that would still be the case. If he continues to progress it will prove more and more a head scratcher as the years pass.

It's just one of hose things that happens in sports and life and I'm glad we wound up on the right side of it for a change. Sadly for Gainey, it could become one of the things that defines him.

McDonagh is an amazing talent and I am happy we got him in a trade for Gomez (and 2 others). I think, in the end, McDonagh is of more importance to our gameplan than Gomez was.

The way he is playing, he is a player who can become a great defender one day. Only 22 and already making such a big contribution to our matches, he will only get better.

Typical Montreal.
I love that that this trade will always be mentioned every time McDonagh does something awesome.

Montreal really wanted a top line center and figured Gomez was that. They were also somewhat disappointed in McDonagh in that he wasnt the offensive D in college they expected, and had some guys like Subban looking good and figured McDonagh was expendable.

That's it

I can't believe this thread isn't updated every game. McDonagh is just amazing, the fact that he is mentioned in trades appalls me because we lack speed on the backend and his will come in handy when they face speedy teams. Deserves appreciation for not missing a beat and being a warrior when it appeared he might have been injured.
