Call Your Shot Now

I have been listening to 1150 AM after games this year, and it always amazes me how optimistic Nick Nickson, and in particular, Daryl Evans is about the Kings eventually "coming around." They have deflected numerous Kings' fans' frustrations loss after loss and always seem to wax optimistically.

Evans said yesterday that he believes as these guys know each other more that the offense will eventually come, and with that the challenge to keep the defense and goaltending operating at prime condition will be there as well.

I myself believe that it may take a little longer than that, maybe we will see some better passing (as that beautiful Montreal goal showed yesterday, those plays still can be made in today's NHL) and our goal scorers will get back to form.

Then again, it could happen later this season, and wouldn't that be a nice surprise? There is no doubt that these guys have nowhere to go but up: Stoll, Penner, Gagne, Brown, and even Kopitar now is in a mini-slump, and you've got to be believe it can only get better from here on in.

As of today, the Kings record is 13-9-4. If you extrapolate the numbers historically, we have the following:

2011-2012 record prior to overtime protocol (1983): 10-9-7.

2011-2012 record prior to shootout protocol (2005): 12-9-5.

So, call your shot now. Does this King team turn it around from here on in and go deep into the playoffs?

Or does this team stumble and bumble offensively the rest of the season and its another "one and done" in the playoffs (or even worse) ?

I say we turn it around.

I say deeper than last year in the playoffs, they are built to perform in the playoffs...

The lack of 5-on-5 production is the most disturbing thing about this team. Kings' opponents seem to set up 5-on-5, and run set plays / cycle / shoot. Why does it seem to me that the Kings rarely are able to do this?

This team will obviously not win the Cup, and honestly, I don't see them getting out of the first round again. Hope I'm wrong - on both counts.

It would be fun to talk with Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans over a few beers and hear how they "really feel" about the current team. I assume they have to stay somewhat positive when they're on air.

Until you see it happen (you know, win), it's hard to predict / expect it to happen. Much of this season is just like the last 2 - just treading water, middle of the pack.

Get 6th-8th in the west, bounced in the 1st round and Murray gets fired.

Still think the Kings with Murray squeak into playoffs. Lose in first round to higher seed.

Finish seventh, lose in five in the first round, losing game one, winning game two in a fashion that raises everyone's hopes, then laying three consecutive eggs to bow out meekly.

Listening to Kings Talk, I have come to the realization that most callers are imbeciles. One caller in particular who called Willie Mitchell, Rob Scuderi and Matt Greene journeymen defensemen was laughable.

As for the Kings' improvement, I think they'll pick it up in the second half. Why? Because I think by then Drew Doughty will start turning it up.

Barely make the playoffs and have to listen to the same **** from Lombardi's mouth again. If we are bounced again first round, AEG needs to give Dean the boot and clean house.

6-7th seed and out in the first in 6-7 games.

I don't think this team is built for the playoffs with the way it is currently constructed and coached.

We pick it up in the 2nd half, trade for a top 6 winger at the deadline, finish top-4 win our first round series maybe 2nd round.

I think we get into the playoffs with a low seed and lose in the first round. We'll take it to 7 games though.

I really hope I'm wrong and we go deep. Please, let me be wrong.

I still hold out hope that this team will turn it around. Honestly, what's the point of sitting through all this suffering if you don't have any hope at all?

As far as Kings talk goes, I find myself frustrated by Nick and Darryl. I know they aren't allowed to bash the team neccesarily but they seem annoyed by certain callers who are asking about a coaching change or speak about the teams obvious shortcomings. Although I listen every night, I find Kings Talk to be poorly produced and often uninformative. That said, I think Nick and Darryl are two of the best live broadcasters in the league while the game is being played.

It's simple to predict a Total collapse, or a first round exit. Then you can be one of those I told you so people.......

The Stanley Cup I believe is the hardest Trophy in all Major Sports to win.

I think the Kings end up Fifth or Fourth, They are not Elite yet.

Also think they will Make the second round, after that no idea.

But I would consider that scenario a Successful season.

Can we then assume that you would consider anything less to be a failure? If so, what would you expect the consequences of that scenario to be?

I'll predict a 2nd round exit. With Richards the Kings are a little more designed for playoff hockey. Oh, almost forgot, Patrick Roy will be the head coach when they lose. You gotta think outside the box if you're going to win these things.

The Kings are going to win the Stanley Cup this year!! I also don't expect them to lose another game this season.
