Martin isn't getting traded at this point unless it's an offer too good to be true. He's cheap, plays hard, and offers intangibles no one else on the roster can.

Jason Blake and Bryan McCabe

Blake spent his best years on Long Island and would welcome a trade back to Long Island...and McCabe's wife is from Long Island and he'd definitely waive his NTC to go there.

Wait....what year is it?

Um.....no offense, but....

You don't see the Wild looking to trade Clutterbuck or the Pens looking to trade Cooke....Martin falls into the same category. There's no component on the Leafs' trading block justifying giving up what Martin brings. Burke wouldn't trade what Snow would demand in return.

Leafs have a pretty deep team at both defense and forward. There are a few players that would be great on Long Island, but Matt Martin isn't likely going to be traded, nor would his market value be high enough to get anyone that can help the Isles out of the lottery.

The Isles will not trade Martin. He's been really good this year, he's shown improvement every year since he was 15, Isles fans/management will wait patiently for another Milan Lucic!

I think a deal is definitely possible involving Matt Martin however, the Islanders needs are for top end talent and not another bottom line player. Matt Martin would be more valuable in a package type deal.

I love when people have a trade "proposal" but then make us make up the terms of the deal.

Only way to get Martin is for him to not be the main piece going back. if there's a big deal & Martin is the throw in that gets the deal done, maybe the isles do it.

but the isles won't make a small trade that gets rid of Martin. he's the only one on the club with any balls.

You forgot Komsiarek. And we'll throw in Jeremy Colliton to sweeten the deal.

Bingo! That's the only deal worth making at this time.

But to be honest, and I don't mean to sound offensive, this is a stupid proposal and thread. He's not going anywhere.

I'd be surprised if Matt went anywhere.
The guy that has managed consistency of effort the whole season...unlike the whole team maybe bar JT and we trade him, no way bro.

Three current NHL Isles who will and should not be traded for anything other than a full overpayment of a grand, grand proportion are:
Tavares, Hamonic, and Martin

Here's a question to all of the fans who say they wouldn't give up Martin for anything:

With the Isles unwilling or unable to sign any free agents of consequence, if you flatly refuse to deal even a bottom 6 winger like Martin, how are you expecting the team to get better?

Point taken. I would not be completely opposed to dealing Martin, but if we dealt him say right now, we'd lose in the long run unless of course we got a ridiculous return or got lucky. Were we actively trying to trade him it'd be best to wait and allow his value to grow, and not just swap him for a bottom 6 of no consequence and yet another draft pick.

you are forgetting what Colliton might fetch.

oh....and wait until February, there will be a lot of interesting proposals out there for great young hockey players, or #1 picks, coming this way - yes, for players like Rolston, Reasoner, Parenteau (not now cuz he's golden boy now), Pandolfo, Staios, Jurcina, Eaton, Mottau, maybe even Tim Wallace.
