Don Taylor seems like a great guy, but when he's not reading a highlight package off a teleprompter he makes about as much sense as half the people on here. No offense, half of you
He was an idiot 50 years back and he has not changed. He was out of his depth selling hockey gear at Hocking and Forbes Sporting Goods when he was growing up.
He also regularly talks about a scar he he received playing sports - well the sport was a whack a mole with my youngest maternal aunt whacking him with up alongside the head with a rock when he was his usual irritating self. One day he was waxing eloquent about his "sports career" in a group I was part of and I asked him about the scar, dropped my aunt's name and his mouth continued to move but no sound came out.
In Vancouver we used to have a trifecta -
Neil Macrae
John McKeachie
Dave Pratt
Pomposity and idiocy all in neat little packages.
He had this shtick where, after a big game, he would get the coach of the Canucks or the Lions on the phone right before the late night sportscast would start. Then as soon as he was on camera, he'd point at the phone & say "I'm talking to the boss!"
I find most of the media guys homers and hesitant to really criticize the team. Most of the team 1040 guys are very hesitant to call out the players and / or management so I find the commentary very bland and uninteresting.
Dan Russell is a bit too negative for sure. He tends to make good points but tends to continuously harps on things like the circus time for years and years. Just let it go geez...
The guy I really enjoy is actually Brook Ward. Dry sense of humor, interesting, makes good points, and actually gives callers time to speak and express their point. Brook Ward is the man imo.
Anyone realise that Pratt is a ****ing loser? I see this guy as someone who some how worked his way onto the top of the 30k a year salary radio jobs because of pure luck
Oh no poker isnt a sport? I better storm out of here to show you all that it really is a sport.
All these posts and not one vote for Tom Larscheid? Man you guys are slipping. Put a 'best' vote down for me. If there was ever one person who had his finger on the pulse of the Canucks, it was him.

I will always forever miss Sportspage a solid 30 min. of the best of sports concentrating on the Canuck's, I will especially miss the Yulin' with the Page at the end of the year.
Those were the golden years of sports coverage here in Vancouver imesho, it's way too corporate now with snp/tsn/cbc.
FYI- they're doing a new bit on 1040 at 2:45. (forget what it's called) Jim Robson will be their first guest and they'll be playing some clips of him from 1955. Hopefully one of those clips will be the cigarette commercial Robson did that 1040 played last week. Unbelievably funny.
Worst-Neil Macrae (bitter and negative)
Tony Gallagher-same
Dan Russell-same
David Pratt-same
Garry Valk-has a point, but 60 minutes isn't enough for him to make it.
Jeff Patterson-worst voice/cadence/phrasing EVER
Joey Kenward-Junior B volunteer Dad calibre play by play
The Moj-Sounds like a dumb jock
Don Taylor (used to be a "best", but his shtick exceeded it's "best before" date at least half a decade ago)
Best-Jim Robson
John Shorthouse
Jim Hughson
They just call the games. And do it well.
pretty much sums it up for me.... although I would move valk into the like category, yes when he does make a point its from the players perspective.
also I can take garret in short form... I dont mind listening to him overall
but the rest of our media.... seem to have 40 yrs of angst stored up and they do seem to cart it out all the time........even when the team is playing well and realitivly error free they seem to drag up crap to stir things up...... wouldnt they be better doing some deep stat work to show things rather than be sh44 disturbers????

Yeah, he can be a real ****** bag on the radio when he's being serious sometimes.
Does anyone here remember Jim Taylor. He had the proverbial 'face made for radio' but was supposed to be a very knowledgeable sports guy.
I believe he was one of the original Sports Page reporters when the show was in its infancy, before the other guys mentioned here. I think he left the show and later wrote in The Province, but rarely about the 'Nucks.
Anyways, I'm a little too young to recall the quality of the content, but I do recall he had a very good rep.
At the risk of having rotten tomatoes throw at me I'm going to give some props to Patterson. I was listening to him call a BCHL game last week and thought he did a pretty good job. The huge inflections in his voice that make him cartoony on talk radio actually work for broadcasting imo.
Wow. Not a single mention of Jason Botchford? Ever catch his Studs (said with a lisp) and Duds on TSN? The guy is the TMZ / Perez Hilton of hockey. His head bobbles back and forth and he has such a de-masculanated voice it's unnerving to watch.
THE WORST:
Jason Botchford
JOHN GARRETT.
I wanna slap his moustache off half the time. He's so biased it's retarded. YOU SUCKED AS A GOALIE GARRETT AND YOU STILL SUCK.
