Yea I saw that.. Wiese did it. I think that should be a penalty.. basically is like the one over the boards?? your delaying the game with a whistle. He did do it in his own zone

What about if it goes over the board, that counts as a goal?

haha... it's really the same concept of what the penalty for delay of game in your own zone is already. Clearing the puck out of play in your own zone

I heard the commentary but didn't see if there was a deflection or an attempt to clear. The faceoff was held in the Panthers' defensive zone, however.

Here's the rules that could apply:

Quote:
63.1 Delaying the Game – A player or a team may be penalized when, in the opinion of the Referee, is delaying the game in any manner.

63.2 Minor Penalty - A minor penalty shall be imposed on any player, including the goalkeeper, who holds, freezes or plays the puck with his stick, skates or body in such a manner as to deliberately cause a stoppage of play. With regard to a goalkeeper, this rule applies outside of his goal crease area.

A minor penalty for delay of game shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who deliberately shoots or bats (using his hand or his stick) the puck outside the playing area during the play or after a stoppage of play.
The refs have the option to call a delay as listed in 63.1 but didn't determine it that way.

In 63.2, the key word is "deliberately" and that apparently didn't apply with this play.

And does "outside the playing" area, apply to the center-ice scoreboard? With the second part of that rule 63.2, if the center-ice scoreboard was "outside the playing area" then a minor could have been issued if it was deliberate.

Maybe that needs clarity, I don't recall seeing that happen prior to tonight.

So i wasn't to off base thinking this could have been a penalty. I actually remember it happening another time but son't remember if it happened while the player was in his own zone or not. But i definitely remember it happening before. Maybe even in a Flyers game?

I don't recall it happening but I wouldn't be surprised. Batted balls have hit overhead structures in domes, I guess that is analogous for two different sports.

I guess they refs didn't see it as deliberate. I don't mind giving the refs the option of that when it comes to shooting the puck over the glass. Remember the late-game minor to Timonen a couple of years ago? Deliberate attempts to delay games, should be penalized but I don't like it being automatic.

Yea i agree about giving the ref the option. Weise was clearly just trying to clear the puck down the ice so they could make a line change. I also hate when two players go over to a lose puck and the defensive player hits the puck when its rolling or on edge and clears the glass... its an automatic penalty and there is no delibrate attempt to delay the game there either.

In the past, Timonen has been known to clear a couple pucks incredibly high on PK.

I don't believe he's hit the scoreboard, though...but on those plays I have no doubt he had the puck high enough

It was. Still a head shot.

Have a lot of time to burn today..
Noticed Phil Kessel 34 checks in last 250 NHL games (4 seasons). What do you think about that?

Wow, Tootoo got two games for driving the net.

Seems to me like he only got the Shanaban cause Shanny didn't please everyone with the Lucic decision.

This is the worst suspension yet, IMO.

Tootoo was driving the net, when the puck was already in the corner. He could have changed directions

do you still think that warrants two games?

probably not, but Tootoo has a dirty reputation. 1 game would have been fair. I also think Lucic should have gotten 1 game

Guys I don't know if you know this but until there is more evidence against it, Sidney Crosby is a vampire!

Well according to twitter people, lines for tomarrow are:

Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr
Simmonds-Briere-Read
JVR-Schenn-Voracek
Talbot-Couturier-Rinaldo

I actually like them.

It's a thing of beauty. Now if that defense can get healthy, watch out!

So why was Lucic's hit not suspendable compared to Tootoo's hit?

I would like a video analysis comparing both hits from Shanny himself.
