Assuming that your team makes the playoffs, you end up playing the same much smaller pool of teams in the playoffs year after year. If one of those teams happens to be a dynasty, it becomes almost impossible to make it past the 2nd round

I don't see too many dynasties with the cap and UFA at 25-27.

And the competition in between conference will make it incredibly difficult

Well then maybe instead of being *****es, the Kings should become the dynasty eh?

The only thing I hate about this is unequal number of teams in each conference, with the Kings getting the shaft in that regard. Otherwise, it's fantastic. Bring back divisional (conference, whatever) playoffs and get your hate on. Besides, the Canucks already have a head start in that regard. No idea why the insist on calling them conferences instead of divisions though.

I like it!

I think the it'll make the regular season more intense and as well as the first two rounds of the playoffs! It would also be "neat" to play an eastern team in the 3rd round of the playoffs, which would be as equally intense. Because if your in the final four in damn well better be.

The 8 teams/7 teams issue is just that, although it'll make things more intense and there for more exciting. If it does become a hot button issue you could always do what the AHL had been doing. Which is have it be 4 divisions with 2 conference. For example if the 5th place team in the 8 team division had more points then the 4th place team in the 7 team division then the 5th place team from the 8th team division would make the playoffs over the 4th place team in the 7 team division and take their spot in the divisional round playoffs. But in someone ways that system makes the whole divisional playoff system pointless and is probably why the AHL switched over to an identical alignment system that the NHL currently has.

Finally from a business point of view this could be TV ratings gold if the NHL gets a New York Rangers vs Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Final!

Probably because they're treating the schedule with other "conferences" as they do with the East and West currently. The majority of teams' games are in their own "conference" now, and only a few are with the other "conference(s)." That's my guess.

Well of course, that's a great solution, and I'm all for it.

I just don't like that some teams are getting an advantage. There would have been nothing wrong with taking the top 2 from each conference then picking the next 4 for the playoffs - a hybrid of the Campbell/Wales system and the current one. Rivalries aren't generated as much, though, and I think that's one thing the BOG supported. I get that things are going to shift over the years as far as good teams, but teams are so close in talent now that even a small advantage becomes huge.

It's called explaining, not complaining. Many of you weren't around when this was the way the playoffs worked in the 80s

You didn't like the playoff series in the 80's?

With almost all teams scoring more than 3 goal...err wait

Heh,

Seriously though, those were playoffs, I remember reading somewhere after the Islanders beat the Oilers, Gretzky and company walking past the Islander locker room expecting to hear the celebration going on, they didn't hear, they saw the Islanders and what it took to win, and it took everything they had, and then some, and I remember Gretzky saying that was the moment the Oilers needed, to learn how to win, and they went and won the next 5 out of 6 I believe.

I love this idea! Can't wait for how crazy the 1st round is gonna be! I think everyone that complains about it, just doesn't think the Kings are good enough to beat the teams in our new conference. Well guess what if we aren't as good as them, we don't deserve to win the cup. Period.

Bring on the rivals! It's gonna get intense!

every team in your conference (4 conferences) 5-6 times (on a rotating schedule), and every other team home and home.

I can see why Detroit fans are happy. It must suck having your team in the playoffs and all the road games start at 10:30 pm.

Let me guess the 4 that were against it ride buses or drive their own cars to road games.
