Coming in peace. Congrats on getting what you wanted. I think we're pretty happy with the move as well.

Our games with Minnesota lately have been amongst the most entertaining all year imo.

Looking forward to plenty of playoff moments that lead to a burning hatred between the Blues/Wild

The games vs the NW never felt relevant...I already feel next seasons division matchups will mean so much more...especially factoring in the race for the top 4!

I just realized we'll have 67% fewer crazy Canadian hockey fans (redundant) whining about how boring we are!

St. Louis I think. Gotta disagree with Squidz--i think there is some real animosity among the players. of course it's brought on by the physical game STL plays against us but IMO our players look genuinely pissed out there against them.

Detroit's run is over. They've relied upon Lidstrom for his whole career, and when he's gone they have nothing. Datsyuk and Zetterberg were drafted over a decade ago. The team has drafted absolutely nothing since. A constantly rising salary cap has allowed other teams to keep their stars, so Detroit is finished.

I don't think anyone truly appreciates what happened here.

It's the -y meme at work.

1. Wild are #1 in the NHL
2. NHL realigns to favor the Wild
3. ??????

They've drafted some solid players and have a fairly deep, although in my opinion, not particularly high end pool. Granted, I don't see the star power coming up that'll need replacing. But I don't think they're going to fall off the map either. I think they'll be fine. Likely not at the top of the league year after year, but this isn't going to be a crash and burn-type scenario.

It boggles my mind how they think this new conference/division alignment will be boring.

Can't wait for next year to get started!

Meh, they're hockey's elitests. What can you really do, can't argue with their success. Only that they ripped off Warroad's Hockeytown USA.

Detroit's fans are the worst conspiracy theorists you'll ever encounter in pro sports. Go to Abel to Yzerman and see if you can spend more than 10 minutes reading it.

So excited for this, we have it all.
Rivals within driving distance? Check
Teams with bad blood? Check
The (North) Stars rivalry? Check
A "rivalry" we can snub our noses at (not that we would of course) while they insist they hate Clutterbuck? Check (CBJ)
Some star power/O6 draw? Check
Games we don't have to stay up until midnight or later to watch? Check

The only problem is that we're going to lose a bunch of points not being able to beat up on Eddy six times a year.

It's interesting to see our new playoff outlook. We leave a division with a big riser (Edmonton), neutral faller (Calgary), smaller riser (Colorado), and aging prime team (Vancouver). That was destined to be a tough fight between the Wild, Oilers, and Avs.

We're joining a division with a perennial dunce (Columbus), perennial playoff team who doesn't cut it on paper (Nashville), rough and tumble team with the right pieces that just doesn't put it together (St. Louis), non-resolved ownership cluster**** (Dallas), recovering disaster (Winnipeg), team that crushed themselves with the cap to get their cup (Chicago), and new Toronto (Detroit).

The way I see it, Chicago will be at least a challenger for a playoff spot for the next 10 years. It's unlikely they're a clear favorite over the next 2-3 because of cap issues. Detroit's on their last couple years before they miss the playoffs for the next 7-10. Columbus has never won a playoff game. The Carter/Nash experiment is turning around a bit, but I have no faith in that team making the playoffs ever again. Nashville always makes the playoffs. If they hold on to Suter that shouldn't change. Dallas has a few years of retool in front of them before becoming real challengers, their ownership limbo tied Niewendyk's hands way too much. St. Louis has all the pieces, but can they put them together? Winnipeg's still a few years out, recovering from such brutal abuse by ASG.

We should be disappointed if the Wild miss the playoffs any time in the next 3-5 years.

Be thankful. Eddy is going to be an exceptionally good team next year. They still lack a high end D but Renney has what they do have buying in a lot like Yeo.

I'm glad that we have Detroit to beat up on now... LOL!

Well...we are 7-0-1 vs the central right now...

Against teams in the central this season (as I mentioned ealier) we're 7-0-1. Even if we only take 5 more points out of the remaining 12 games, we'll finish 0.500 against them this season. If we somehow manage to not lose in regulation to any of them, that would be an amazing introduction to the new division.

I do expect this conference to be brutal. Regardless of any team's standings the games will be played hard. I do expect bad blood between both players on the different teams, and the fans as well. The conference playoffs will just be wars. I do see the popularity of the entire sport in general increasing because of the greater importance of the conference games.

Detroit is the perfect balance for the Oilers. They can complain about how they have no interest in games against us and then Harding will go in and shut them down every game.

Crawford is pretty average, he stops most of the shots he's supposed to, some he shouldn't, and lets in a few softies. I wouldn't be surprised if they miss the playoffs a once or twice over the next 5 years, but they'll probably only miss by one spot if they do. The fact is, Toews and Kane are only getting better. It's hard to remember that they're both only 23 and on decent contracts until 2014-2015. Hossa and Sharp are older, but not that old. The team has a legitimate top pairing on defense as well. A team with Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, and average goaltending should make the playoffs.

I'm just going to laugh when Lidstrom retires.

I mean, Rafalski already retired...

Take a look at their roster and the under 30 players... It's just sort of sad and I have a much higher opinion of Howard than I do Crawford.

Thing is, though, Detroit will always be competitive because... they are Detroit. I know that sounds blase, but...

Let's say Holland pulls some magic this off-season...

They get Suter or Weber from Nashville, sign Josh Harding, and also sign Colaiacovo. They just bought several years more of being competitive....
