The Marlins are just doing what they have done in the past. Load up on a bunch of players, go for a World Series, and then completely disband the team the next year. Instead of consistently trying to win every year, they opt for 1 or 2 big years then 8 years of being irrelevant. It's pretty annoying.

Wow, Marlins offer Pujols 10 years.

Supposedly STL said they're not budging on their 9/200.

I would like Pujols a lot less if he left St. Louis. He is literally the face of a franchise that just won the World Series. That is a major slap in the face of St. Louis fans. Anyone else, go for it man more power to you, but Pujols should be more thoughtful about the people that love him. Imagine if Jeter left the Yankees after the 2009 World Series so he could chase an extra year on a contract that would set him for life either way, everyone would hate him. Either way the guy is going to make a ton of bank, more money then he would know what to do with it. Do not **** on the people who love you is what I am getting at

Agreed.

It's also not like the Cards are offering him much less. Cards offer is 8 years I believe, AAV not said yet, and Marlins 10 years over 220 mill.

Reports are saying Marlins are optimistic of signing him. This will a huge surprise if he does leave STL.

No he's a set-up man and historically good. He had a rough year in Toronto last year posting a 4.60 era. I used to hate when we would face him in Washington. I rate this as a very good signing.

Lets be honest right now the Mets are not a high payroll team. Also, even if they were - they would need A LOT of work. So I'm hoping the Mets can piece together a team that is decent next year. It will take us 3 years to really contend!

Sandy is a smart guy, he'll make some solid moves. I have no doubts about that. Still just pissed that we're now a mid-market team, for all intents and purposes.

I like the moves so far, Francisco being the closer will be like having Benitez again though.

I'm not sure why, but I never liked Pagan - so happy he was traded for Torres, who I'm sure will be our lead off hitter.

Sandy - starting pitching please? Thanks

I don't think Martinez has the range to play center, even with the new dimensions. He should be in a corner.

I really liked Pagan but the guy is injury prone and can only handle a 90 game season. Great 4th OFer though.

The bullpen? You never know with that wacky position more so than in any other sport. Some guys switch leagues and have a bad year and then go back to their original league, hit it off with the right pitching coach, mechanics, etc. It's more warm bodies the Mets acquired as they're going to throw a whole bunch of stuff on the wall and see what sticks.

CF? Is Corey Vaughn even in the conversation or is he still way too young? There's no way the dude they drafted last year with the Italian name from Wyoming is even in the mix is he? I don't really follow baseball that much anymore.

Also, who is playing SS now?

I really like the Pagan trade.

Based on FWAR, Torres' lows and highs are both better than Pagans, and Ramon Ramirez is a good relief pitcher.

I feel like too many fans are going to be bitter about any move Sandy makes because of Reyes. The only move i'm not a huge fan of is giving Francisco that much money.

Torres-8, Murphy-4, Wright-5, Davis-3, Bay-7, Duda-9, Thole-2, Tejada-6

That's a TERRIBLE lineup. But, what are you going to do?

Starting Pitchers are a mess too ...

Santana
Niese
Pelfrey
Dickey
Gee

Bullpen is much improved but not lights out!

Believe it or not, I don't think it's that bad. Rotation isn't bad if Pelfrey gets his act together and that lineup isn't too bad either. I do find myself saying this every year though and then the entire team gets injured.

Adding Reyes doesn't really make that lineup that much better, especially when it's post-DL Jose.

More likely than not, a full season of Wright, Davis and Duda account for the loss of Jose and this team finishes where it was last year, maybe a little better since the bullpen is much improved.

Really, the biggest thing we have going for us is 4 elite prospects who can pan out to be aces. It's unlikely they all do, but the Mets have a core of very very solid pitching prospects that can either help this team better through themselves or through trade.

Figure around May for Kirk to be ready. I like the move of just getting rid of Pagan...is there a dumber ballplayer in the majors? Torres should also take some pressure off Duda in RF. Pagan regressed defensively. I'm not sorry to see him go.

Pelfrey is at best a 4.
