Boucher injured, Murphy called up

Quote:

Rutherford says Boucher is injured. Murphy to be called up from Checkers.
Interesting that Murphy receives the call, especially with how well Peters is doing down there. An attempt to see someone new or just not wanting to screw up the flow of the Checkers with Peters doing so well?

Would Peters have had to pass through waivers to get the call up? That may have also been a factor if that's the case.

Yup, Peters would've had to clear re-entry waivers I believe.

But since this would be an emergency callup, I don't think Peters would have to pass through waivers.

How did Boucher get hurt? Was it related to that puck he took in the face maybe?

He played a full game after that, didn't he? (PIT - and played pretty well)

Does anybody really think Peters gets claimed? He'd have to stay on the NHL roster of any team claiming him. I think we could safely recall him any time we wanted. Then there's the "emergency" factor. On top of that, the team just left for Western Canada for four games. I think this means one thing: Murphy is ahead of Peters on the organizational depth chart.

Probably just want to reward Murph by letting him open the door a few times in the NHL. Peters got a year full of NHL salary last season for doing nothing at all. I doubt Murphy even plays a single game.

No reason to mess up Charlotte, Peters is playing well. Let Murphy get some NHL experience. And by that I mean let him sit on the bench.

Per the Canes site, Boosh was injured in practice on Monday and it's described as being "lower body."

I'd say he's got a 50/50 shot of seeing mop up action in one of the next two games.

Murphy made some history last night. First EVER goalie to take a loss before ever giving up his first goal.

I listened to Mark and Mike on 620 AM on the drive in to work - Chuck was on and he said that his understanding is that Boosh will be out for "some time." I wonder if Murphy stays up or if they'll swap Murphy and Peters at some point.

They showed it during the Hurricanes Live pregame segment last night - I didn't catch the injury itself but saw two other players helping Boosh off the ice. It looked like he couldn't put much/any weight on his left leg.

Like I said above, I'm sure the Canes simply preferred Murphy. They knew how badly Boucher was hurt. I assume they were there. They called up Murphy because they want Murphy to be the backup goalie right now.

Branecky said Peters couldn't be recalled without clearing waivers due to his salary and wouldn't have been available in time. Also, I'm not sure he goes unclaimed with the way he's been playing recently.
