Jonas Johansson scouting report:

Well I did updates for the Avs board but now that Johansson is a Cap I'll do one here for ya. I am a big WHL fan and the Blazers are my favourite team. Johansson is also one of my favourite players and I watch him closely (along with most other NHL picks)

Well "Yo-Yo" as he is called is having a poor season by his standards, that along with his increased PIM may have been the reason for his availability. He is playing sloppy undisciplined hockey in Kamloops. Having said that I think he is top six NHL material, and the Avs were STUPID to trade him, they stole him in the draft and then gave him away.

The good:
-Explosive skater. This kid can skate, and stickhandle. His skating however is what will impress you the most, very agile and not so much fast but explosive he finds the holes. A real snipers skating style.
-Great stickhandler, probably the best stickhandler on the Blazers.
-Nice wrist shot, actually it can be a lazer. This guy is deadly on the PP from the slot.
-Mean streak. Doesn't get pushed around.
-A sniper, but can pass, good hockey sense

The not so good:
-Intensity level. In my opinion he could play in the AHL right now, perhaps he feels the same way. The problem is he needs to work harder.
-Reckless undisciplined penalties.
-Has a mean streak but not gritty by any means.
-Injury history

Needs to turn this season around, so far his stats are:

13gp 4g 5a 9pts 20PIM

Playing with overager and Pens draft pick Erik Christensen, Jonas needs to be better. I think he will. He should end up with at least a PPG, otherwise there may be some development problems, I'll keep you updated!

Thanks for the report.

One question...how is is defensive game? I see he's a plus 6 for a pretty good Kamloops team....is that just from luck or does he have some defensive skills as well.

He backchecks. He is defensively responsible enough to not be a liability, but his home is in the offensive side of the rink. He can hold his own, but that's not what he specializes in.

Thats all I needed to hear/read.

Awesome trade!

Right wings in the system now:
Fehr
Johansson
Fussey
Werner

Left:
Semin
Mink
Sykora

Center:
Gordon
Sutherby
Nepriayev
Krestanovich

Holy hell....one top notch center away from a bad ass prospect offensive core.

Hell...look at the D:

Eminger
Yonkman
Cutta
Wellar
Riazantesev

Goal:
Ouellet
Daigneault
Stana
Gherson

Wow....

ranked as the 6th best prospect from Sweden

http://eliteprospects.com/news.php?news=536

"A very good skater and playmaker. Johansson is hoping to have a strong season in the WHL before seriously challenging for a roster spot with Colorado Avalanche".

http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=133

Jonas Johansson

Birth: 1984-03-18
Nation: Sweden
Position: LW
Shoots: R
Height: 6.02
Weight: 193
Drafted: Selected 2002 by Colorado round 1 #28 overall

Johansson is a very exciting player. He has established himself well in North America and it seems he has all the tools to become a fine player in the NHL.
As a player Jonas is a fine skater, he has a good shot and is willing to shoot alot, he is also a fine play-maker. The main thing he lacks is a really strong physical game.

What kind of prospect rating is johansson going to get...i know the ratings vary from team to team so the avs 7 might not be the same for us

Oh suprise, surpise another WHL prospect.....which is a good thing

I kept the 7. Thought that was about right. I slid him into the Caps rankings behind Fehr, but ahead of Fussey and Werner.

.

First of all to the so called Blazer fan above. Jonas's lack of scoring is because he's actually playing physical this year and taking care of his own end. He was brutal in both areas last year and the offense will come. As far as Christensen well he needs to be traded cause he has blatantly showed he doesn't give a damn.

A nice pickup for the Caps and obviously a desperate deal done by Lacroix.

I see him ahead of Fehr in terms of potential. Just MO.

We kept Johansson at a 7 until he showed numbers over a longer stretch of time. His upside and scouted potential is higher than a 7. I think it was a bad trade for the Avs, Jonas is very talented.

First of all, I'm not a "so called Blazer fan" I've been a fan of the Blazers since there were the Blazers. I graduated from UCC and lived in Kamloops for 15 years before moving to Vancouver. I am a Blazer fan.

I'm not sure what your attacking from my post? Low intensity level? I was in Kamloops for most of September and half of October and got to see the Blazers often, Christensen and Johansson need to work harder.

Guys I think Washington ripped off Colorado in the trade.
This guy looks like a good player.

Here's an update on Johansson's progress as of late:

18gp 4g 6a 10pts +5 22PIM

Yes, 1 lone assist in the past 5 games for Jonas, to be fair the Blazers have had a tough stretch recently playing in low scoring games including a 2-1 loss vs Vancouver.

I think the Blazers are expecting more out of Johansson and I wouldn't be surprised to see he or Christensen traded in the near future (probably Christensen)

He has however been responsible defensively and the harness has been tightened by the coach. Hopefully he can resume his PPG pace soon, but until then I think you guys will be allright watching Alexander Semin develop. Looks to be a real nice player.

I'll do another update in about 5 games.
