Price has been one of the best goalies in the east this season! Proof inside

The best way to compare goalies is to see how they compare against their adversaries, so here goes.

For goalies minimum 15 games played

thomas 18 gp 13 wins 1.87 gaa 0.940 save % 3 shutouts
lundqvist 19 gp 11 wins, 2.15 gaa, 0.931 save % 2 shutouts
fleury: 21 gp 14 wins 2.16 gaa 0.921 save % 2 shutouts
price: 24 gp 10 wins 2.21 gaa 0.919 save %, 2 shutouts
theodore: 19 gp 10 wins 2.28 gaa 0.924 save % 1 shutout
enroth: 16 gp 8 wins 2.32 gaa 0.925 save % 1 shutout

then there's a huge drop off in gaa and save %

Garon: 16 GP 5 wins 2.67 gaa 0.910 save % 1 shutout
Vokoun: 19 gp 10 wins 2.72 gaa 0.909 save % 1 shutout
miller: 12 gp 6 wins 2.78 gaa 0.912 save % 1 shutout
bryzgalov: 18 gp 10 wins 2.83 gaa 0.900 save % 1 shutout
pavalec: 24 gp 10 wins 2.99 gaa 0.906 save % 2 shuotuts
gustavsson: 15 gp 9 wins 3.13 gaa 0.901 save % 0 shutouts
ward: 24 gp 8 wins 3.29 gaa 0.898 save % 1 shutout
anderson: 24 gp 12 wins 3.36 gaa 0.896 save % 0 shutouts
roloson: 16 gp 6 wins 3.55 gaa 0.886 save % 1 shutout

The huge drop in gaa and save % shows that there is a lot of goals scored in the east, and 6 of the 15 teams top goalies are playing really well. Price being one of them. This with a very depleted defense in front of him and a horrible overall team effort.

I would say Price should be one of the all star goalies this year. So stop ****in on the only star on the team because he is not good at shootouts!

Selective stats?

He leads in games played, 6th in save %, 4th in gaa, 2nd in shutouts, what else do you judge a goalie by?

you're only taking goalies from the East, aren't you?

Why would you compare goalies to goalies who play in a different conference? Difference team systems, different play.

Best way is to compare conference to conference, after all you've played 85% of your games against teams in your own conference..

Don't need "proof inside". He is.

Problem is his team is not very good.

He has been good. But he hasn't been great...as much as it pains to admit, that would go to Tim Thomas with a 0.940SP.

Agreed, it's Timmy again rather easily, Price has been good, but not great.

After all the flack people gave Habs fans for voting Habs players in when the All Star game was in Montreal, I find this amusing.

People will find anything to crap on us. Isn't the motto of all star voting, "Vote often" ?

I don't even need stats to know that Carey is one of the best goalies in this league.

Thomas is the best goalie in the league and admittedly Price hasn't been as good. That doesn't mean he hasn't been great.

Granted, he got off to a rough start but since Oct 26th he's been lights out. And he was lights out last year too.

Get off the price ****, ot shootouts could have gotten the habs enough extra points to be higher in the standings, price didn't stop the ****in puck.
There's only one stat the really counts, the win/lost stat. The rest of the stats are just ways for players getting a higher salary.

Have to agree Price has to start playing better. Letting in goals like that second one last game shouldn't happen. It was a bad goal and I'm sure he knows this.

Oh please. He was the only reason many of those games got to OT or SO to begin with!

Okay, every goalie lets in a bad goal. He let in two goals on 28 shots and his team was outplayed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. That's good for a .929 save percentage on the night. He also made several great saves.

In 8 out his last 11 games he's been at .920 (sometimes much higher) or better and has only been below .910 twice.

Admittedly his first six or seven games weren't great but since October 26th the guy has been on fire. I'm not sure what more you can ask from him this season except get off to a better start.
