Sooo apparently Bobby Mac has said Carolina has had discussions about moving Staal and/or Ward considering they are aways from competing especially after realignment. And them going full rebuild.
If thats the case, and with Carolina not having to care about us after this year, what say you on getting Cam Ward here....
Yes please.
I'd give up anything not named Stamkos, Hedman, or St. Louis to get Ward.
Carolina never blows up. It'd be uncharacteristic for them to do so now because of realignment.
The Canes also have Ward and Staal signed through 2016.
Even if the Canes completely rebuilt, could they ever be able to compete in the Patrick with the owner and fanbase size they have? It's always a money thing, and if they decide to go the New Jersey route, why didn't they do that in the first place? What were all these past years to them? Acceptable mediocrity? They'd be setting themselves up for failure again if that's what they're okay with.

For those still lamenting loss of Lundin, he walked away from multi-year offer w/ TB worth more per year than he received from Minnesota
Did you guys know this? I didn't know it. Surprising to me, but he is a Minnesota boy.
I'm not saying sign him right now, but get his ass in a scrimmage, and see what he can do.
Manny Legace, same drill.
I mean, look at Marty. That was a guy who coaches and managers said 'no, he will not make it', until a Cheeto encrusted thumb came across his scouting report and decided to give the little guy a shot.
(2) What I'm getting at is that we should give pretty much anyone a chance to show they can play 60 minutes without thinking it's the first period when it's the third. Or be randomly startled by the fact that they're wearing goalie gear.
I have nothing against goalies who have played with a rover, as my post history will indicate, but I do have a problem when it limits their abilities.
(1) Well for one thing: Isn't he doing TV now on NHLN? He also was very shaky on the Blackhawks last year:
Crawford: 2.30 GAA and .917 SV% in 57 games (33-18-6)
Turco: 3.02 GAA and .897 SV% in 29 games (11-11-3)
(2) I wouldn't say "anybody". I'd rather give one of our goalie prospects a shot than make a risky signing just for the sake of doing something as an attempt to wake the team up.
Don't leave me hanging like that. Was he pissed because he wasn't give a QO? What?
From what I heard through a couple people, his agent highballed us and we walked away from our offer, Mike wasn't happy with that, fired his agent, got a new one and MN came knocking.
As if Marty Turco could solve this team's problems. It's the guys in front of Roloson and Garon that are the biggest issue, I don't think it will make too much a difference who's in net until everyone steps up, especially the D.

Gotta agree with this. The Goalies have shown they can play and make big saves. The defense is the group that hasnt been our strong suit for a while. Get some more stability in the D then I could see our Goalies play a lot better.
with Muller now I agree, but he was in Maurice's dog house to start the season and they were looking to trade him. that team needs forwards, and we need D. Shannon and a 2nd sounds fine to me
I think in terms of a goaltender, LA makes a pretty good trade partner.
Something that LA is lacking is speed, despite a goalie named 'Quick'.
I think there's a basis for a deal in Garon + Shannon for Bernier. There's a few other characters I'd be interested in swapping for. (besides the obvious) Penner, Martinez, Scuderi, etc.

IMO, it'd likely take one of Connolly/Ashton and Garon to pry Bernier out of LA. Ideally though, it'd be Panik, Garon and a 2nd rounder in 2012 (at least).

I don't know folks, Garon already had his stint with LA. I think Lombardi was ok with letting him walk at the end of it. It's been a while, but still.
I'd like Gleason as well, he's a well-rounded player.
Would be a great cost-effective addition but having dealt traded 2 more years of Kaberle for Spacek's expiring contract, I can't foresee the Canes letting him go, especially with Bryan Allen coming off the books, too.
Beyond that, it's Harrison and a talented bunch of kids (Faulk, Joslin, McBain and Murphy). They will probably be looking to add an affordable vet anyway, in addition to retaining Gleason.

Worth remembering that Quick and Bernier aren't due to hit RFA until the summer of 2013. With a glut of defensemen and both Stoll and Penner set hit UFA, it wouldn't shock me if Lombardi moved one of the goalies at some point this upcoming summer in exchange for a young forward. That would allow Lombardi the financial flexibility to sign one of the "premium" free-agent forwards (here's looking at you, Alex Semin).
That said, if LA is going to give up split that affordable tandem before then, it's probably going to cost a premium, so, yes, I'd think that Connolly or Ashton would serve as the starting point in any negotiations.
