Quote:
April 26, 1997 -- Rod Brind'Amour's phenomenal accomplishment helped the Flyers eliminate the Penguins in Game 5, 6-3. Brind'Amour scored two SHGs in a span of 54 seconds in the first period and tied NHL records for most SHGs by a player in one period and in one playoff game; it was the second fastest such feat by a player in NHL PO history (Tom Fitzgerald of the NYI scored twice in 48 seconds against Pittsburgh in 1993).
FLYERS-PENGUINS' 2010-11 SERIES:
2010 -- October 7 -- The Flyers spoiled the debut of Pittsburgh's Consol Energy Center with a 3-2 victory in both teams' season openers. Sergei Bobrovsky, who became the youngest Flyers' goalie to start on opening night at age 22 years and 17 days, made 29 saves and was chosen the game's top star. Danny Briere scored the first goal in the new building 2:51 into the second period and Philly led the remainder of the game. Blair Betts gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead late in the second period. Tyler Kennedy scored Pittsburgh's first goal in the opening minute of the third period. Claude Giroux's nifty SHG gave Philly a 3-1 lead but 19 seconds later Alex Goligowski made it 3-2. Chris Pronger did not play for the Flyers. The game drew an estimated 730,000 viewers on Versus, the most-viewed regular season NHL telecast ever on the network. 2010 -- October 16 -- Brent Johnson made 29 saves and Sidney Crosby (2-1-3) scored consecutive PPGs in an 84-second span to lead Pittsburgh to a 5-1 win at Philly. The Pens scored three special teams' goals in the third period. Mark Letestu scored in the final minute of the second period to make it 2-1 Pens. After the game, an upset Mike Richards said about Matt Cooke “I chased him around last year in this building, but he wouldn’t have anything to do with it. Obviously in a one goal game at the end of the period he tries to come after me but when Sidney Crosby fights Carcillo maybe I’ll fight him." Richards' post-game comments -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmgT1...layer_embedded
2010 -- October 29 -- Claude Giroux (2-0-2) and Mike Richards, the game's top two stars, led the Flyers to a 3-2 win at Pittsburgh. Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves. Dan Carcillo, a recent healthy scratch, also scored. On one goal, Giroux said "Richie (Mike Richards) – it was all him because he sees the ice so well." Four seconds into the contest, Richards fought Matt Cooke and later the Flyers' captain said “The things that were said last game carried over and I was just trying to get the guys going I guess. I’m not going to say anything (about Cooke) though. It’s after a win. I’m going to keep my mouth shut.” There were 32 PIMs and 10 penalties called in the opening 3:59 of the game. The Flyers killed all six Pittsburgh PPs. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OXtAc3ck2I
2010 -- December 14 -- Scott Hartnell's (1-1-2) PPG snapped a 2-2 tie midway in the third period and Brian Boucher made 21 saves in the Flyers' 3-2 home win that ended the Penguins' 12-game winning streak. The Flyers' PP was 0-for-5 prior to the goal (finished 1-for-6). Evgeni Malkin, who returned to the lineup after missing the last four games and was in the box during the decisive goal, scored two PPGs. Sidney Crosby had two assists and Marc-Andre Fleury made 34 saves. The Flyers killed a minor to Darroll Powe called with under three minutes remaining. The victory was the 20th for Philly, the 14th time the team reached that figure prior to Christmas, and enabled the Flyers to pass the Penguins as the top team in the NHL. The Penguins had not lost since November 15 and won their last six regular season visits to Philadelphia. It was the most watched regular season game ever on VERSUS and was also the most watched regular season NHL telecast on cable since December 4, 2003 (Detroit/St Louis on ESPN; 758,000 viewers). FLYERS-PENGUINS' 2011-12 SERIES:
2011 -- December 8 -- The Flyers skated to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 home win which bolted them into first place in the Eastern Conference. Danny Briere, struggling with the flu, scored in the first period on a goal deflected off two Penguins. Later in the opening period, the Penguins had a 5-on-3 for 1:10 with two Flyers' defenders playing without sticks for part of the play. Wayne Simmonds and Scott Hartnell added second period goals. Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves. The Flyers had a 29-27 shots edge but Pittsburgh held a 14-7 advantage in the third period.
For all of our injury troubles, we seem to luck out on facing teams having similar problem. Buffalo had a pair of rookie d, and so will Pens apparently.
Hope Bourdon has as solid a game as he had against Buffalo.
It's about time Voracek got that hattrick now. This would be a really good game for that to happen.
First game of the season for me! (Second will be @ WAS next week - free tickets from a friend whose company has a box).
I'm also taking my girlfriend, and it will be her first hockey game ever! I rarely make it to games and never early, but today will be an exception. So my question is how early are there things worth seeing in the arena? We plan to eat first, but would like to wander around, take in the atmosphere, maybe catch on-ice warmups if that's an option, etc. Any suggestions welcome! We'll be right in the top of sec. 212, by the way. I have my home black Kapanen jersey and I got her a generic orange team shirt.
anyone else find it weird that our first game against the Pens is in December? Has the Pens schedule been like that with every other Atlantic division team?
Probably has something to do with the fact that the league knew Crosby would miss the first half of the season

can't wait to see this PP-fest tonight
I think its just our schedule.. We just played the rangers for the first time this year
Will Briere be playing? Why did he only play 9 minutes yesterday night?
We really won't know until later today, they had the morning off so injury reports and so what will come out in a little bit probably. Just keep checking here or on our board, if they are not playing/injured it will be on here as soon as we hear
Yes, Briere only played 9 minutes. He was suffering from a virus and the after affects keep his playing time down
I see a lot of you talkin about jagr vs pitts, and of course, it'll be interesting but Jagr hasn't played in pitts for years. I'm more curious to see Talbot vs his old teammates!

He has a virus which prevented him from participating in practices earlier in the week. He was also high-sticked in the first period but after the game he said he wasn't 100% due to the virus. His status for tonight is unknown and with no morning skate scheduled, probably won't be confirmed until later in the day.
I've been waiting for this game since the season started, I only wish Crosby was playing. They seemed to be injured in the back end as well, we should win this, hopefully they ride off of last nights momentum.
