Yes, but I believe the point would be to have both, for a great one-two punch. Like in Vancouver, with Sedin-Kesler. That would be a great start.

It would be nice. Waive Gomez and all of a sudden you have 7.3M to get one.

Yeah I meant Staal as first line centre, Pleks as second. Would be one of the best one-two punches in the league.

Regret what? Leblanc, Weber? A mid-range 1st?

We're talking the big center we've been missing. A player who's once hit 100 points. Rarely ever finishes under 30 goals and since rookie season has never had under 70. He's also won a stanley cup.

Cole-Staal-Cammallerri
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gionta
Kostitsyn-Eller-Moen
White-Nokelainen-Darche

Hey, we have ALL had our share of wins and misses. Like people in here who loves the phrase, "win some, lose some", well it applies to us as well with our predictions......But I'd just like to know who in here was SURE about Giroux's now showing how average he is since he was now to go-to-guy with the loss of Richards and Carter.

1st in points in this whole NHL. Wow......

I don't see how "bigness" is so important at center. I look at San Jose whom for years had Thornton and Marleau as #1 and 2, both 6'2" and 6'4" and around 220lbs. It didn't valut them to multiple Stanley Cups, in face they never won ONE.

Boston won with Krejci and Bergeron who are below average size, Pittsburgh Had Crosby as their #1. Chicago had Toews and Sharp who is are average sized. Detroit had Zetterberg and Datsyuk who are below average size.

He's fantastic no doubt, but I have a problem with Montreal fans constantly talking about him like he was our property at any point. Giroux has no ties with Montreal, they didn't draft him, they didn't trade him away for nothing, they didn't lose him to free agency.

So wtf is going on with Mister Boucher and his tampa lightning lately?

That coach, with all due respect, was put on a pedestal from day one and had good playoffs on his first year. Now it looks akward to see his good team on paper suck like this.

All of these are STARS. Except for Krejci, but Boston won with depth and Thomas.

Toews ain't no midget either and he's decent physically. Big centres are very important. Their presence is felt right away. Go watch the Staals, Getzlaf, Carter, Malkin, Kopitar, etc.

He should have been. Playing on our backyard, people always looking for the next franco one. And we had an advantage over tons of teams, we had our own combine where he was invited in so we'd take a closer look than just the NHL combine. I know other teams have their own combine yet, not sure he was invited in a lot of those. Problem is also that at that rank, the discrepancy between who we chose versus him is kinda huge.

Hey, it's not even a franco matter anymore. I heard Mitch Melnick saying to McGuire today that for now, everytime he hears Claude Giroux's name, he always think of...David Fischer.

The problem is compounded by the fact that he play his junior hockey 90 minutes from the Bell Center and we still got it wrong.

about the staal debate.

there is much less difference between plekanec and staal than most people think.

one is an consistent 70 point center, one is an inconsistent 50-70 point center. one is always in the running for a selke (7t last year iirc), one is nowhere near. one's got a very good contract, one has an almost gomez-like (ok, maybe not gomez ) contract. one if a few years younger than the other.

the difference between staal and plekanec is smaller than you think.

well, i guess the question is how good are they really, on paper...

their current roster is not all that different than their opening day roster last year, a roster that most people predicted to be right about where they are right now...

in fact, they really have lost probably a bit more than they've gained, in terms of roster talent, since then...

in:
Brewer
Shannon
Rolosson
Garon

out:
Gagne
Bergenheim
Ellis
Smith

with Rolosson stumbling badly, your left with a pretty ho-hum roster, despite the great talent in st-louis/stamkos/lecavalier.

Yzerman, working on a restricted budget, did a great job last year of plugging holes, and Boucher got the best out of that roster to push them to within a game of the Cup finals.

surprised that they've stumbled so bad to start the year, but wouldn't be surprised at all to see them go on a run... and let's not get to crazy about the bolts "sucking", they're only 3 pts back of Martin's habs, with 1 game in hand.

The Panthers are for real. I see a lot of similarities between the 11-12 Panthers and the Panther team that reached the cup finals. Theodore looks like he has completely renewed himself.

I thought most of their off season acquisitions were a big mess but I have to give the GM credit.

e) with many teams improving this year, I don't see TB reaching the playoffs. They are really lacking on the D and Rolie seems completely gassed out.

I find it quite hypocritical that our fans are willing to blame Boucher for Tampas problems but not JM's in Montreal.
