About 3 years ago, one of the best kept secret rinks was in the old military housing off of corydon/kenaston. They had an Olympic sized rink and the military kept the lights on all along. On top of that, they had a clubhouse and kept it open all night too. You did not have to worry about bums because the military police would patrol it. I miss it because I lived within a 5 minute walk; I had a lot of 11pm or later late night skate sessions with friends who also knew of the rink.

It sucks because the base moved to Shilo, they tore it down. No more boards are, but the lights are still on haha. Some people flood it still but with no nets or boards, I don't bother.

I'd be down for sure but have legit full equipment hockey tomorrow night. Soon though for sure.

Yeah I'd just be out for a skate and shoot some pucks around, nothing crazy. I haven't skated in 7 years so I may look like a dumbass, I don't know yet haha.

I don't have full equipment yet either. My parents will help me out with that for Christmas.

It's about a half hour walk there for me, but that's not too bad.

I am told that River Heights CC has lights on all night but you'll need to change outside.

I drove by after the Jets game last night around 11:30pm and the lights were on. I don't know the status/quality of the ice.

I called on Monday when I was phoning around; they didn't have ice ready then. Ever want a goalie sometime, I might be down.

Yeah, I don't have full equipment right now. Just skates and a stick. We could play shinny, just no crazy slappers or anything heh.

Haha, damn, I totally forgot about outdoor practices when we were kids. Had so many of those.

And yeah, when I went out looking at the rinks yesterday there was a 16-17 year old kid in full gear and everyone else wasn't. Looked really funny.

I lived in Calgary during several of the non Jets years, and used to travel up to Edmonton for Oilers games. On game days we'd often play shinny before heading down to the rink for the game. At our main outdoor rink there was a group of older guys, from the 80's era, who'd show up and play in full gear ... with Gretzky, Kurri, Messier, etc. jerseys on (Jofa helmets too). They were hilarious, and they added some nice spice to the game because you could play them a bit harder due to the pads.

Yeah, tell me about it. She's forcing me to a Christmas party on the 17th.

Anywho, I'm down any time this weekend at any place I can get to by bus or walking. If you guys wanna go elsewhere I'll give someone 5 bucks for gas money.

Looks like the bulk of people on here are from the West End, St. James and Rver Heights area's. I am super close to SJF. I was there this past Monday. Ice was good. played a game 5 on 5 each team had a goalie to. It was sweet.

I love getting out for a skate outside. Should we organize a HF Boards Jets shinny game some afternoon.

That would be so perfect! I'm sure we could find a rink where it would be just us!

I watched my godson play outdoors at Windsor C.C this weekend, they had pretty good ice. Skated at Norwood, the ice was still somewhat soft there. I would love to play, not the best, not the worst, I have old-school goalie equipment (Cooper leather pads, glove, and blocker), can put down the two pad stack pretty well Also have my grandfather's old hockey gloves, circa 1950's (Maurice Richard style), that I need to get repalmed first, if anyone knows a good place for that...And my TSN jersey that I got from Sara Orlevsky playing hockey on Portage and Main the day the Jets came back

Hey I just finished my exams so I am completely free and I have a car to go anywhere. Let me know if you wanna play some shinny, I only went out like once last year, I'd love to go more often this year.
