Mtl seems fit for players with huge contracts and on the decline. First Gomez now this guy? If he's anything like he was in Toronto (he's good days), I'll praise Goat for this. However if he isn't, he just basically fired himself.

Gauthier saw the HF thread about Plekanec being mad over us not signing Jagr so they decided to bring a friend for him

The Habs are truly the masters at acquiring underachieving overpaid players aren't they.. This move stinks of Gainey who I still believe is calling the shots..

Anyway since Kaberle is now an Hab and there's nothing we can do about it lets hope he can help fix this dreadful PP somewhat.. Welcome to the circus called the Habs Tomas..

Kaberle for Spacek is fine...just the cap problem, but hopefully Molson steps up and buys out Gomez at the end of the year and thats our 7.3 million cap space for Subban, Price, Gorges.

True, it is a risky move. The sad part is, they are both still being paid like they were in the same shape as they were 3 years ago. Thats what worries me the most.

Maybe something else is brewing.

Wow has this guy's value fallen. Less than a year ago Boston gave two first round picks for this guy, and now I hear Marinaro on the radio freaking out because we got him for Spacek. He may well be another terrible acquisition but at least all he costs is money.

It's not my money and frankly compared to Spacek at 3.75 it's not that much a difference to the cap. Has he got two more years of decent hockey in him? It's not like Spacek brought a lot to the the team in the time he was here. Kaberle may just be more of the same. He's softer, but he's also not as slow. He's a poor d in his own zone but he's always had a very good breakout pass. And he hasn't shot on net on the PP in like a decade, just one-dimensional back there (but again, a good passer).

Overall this more of the same. Overpaid meh hockey players and still about as tough as three-ply toilet paper.

I thought Kaberle was on a 1-2 year contract, the 3year vs impending UFA issue is the only thing I don't like about the deal, other than that I think it's a good move.

Relax people, I think he'll work out better than expected for you guys.

Bruins, as good as they are, lack speed, and thats what stopped him there. Kaberle's strength is his very accurate breakout pass, and with your speedy forwards, that will come in handy. In Boston, he was essentially used for dump and chase.

Just one thing, he might be poor defensively and all, but don't ever ask him to shoot the puck. Like Ever.

Lastly, Good luck.

47 points last year, 49 the year before, aint hating it! The powerplay is our only hope honestly because our forwards are just not gonna score much to win games if the pp doesn't work. And this should really help.

This is the most pissed off I have been since the Gomez trade..

What the **** are the Habs doing? They are in 12th place.. What the hell is the difference between Spacek and Kaberle? Probably nothing.. just that we are stuck with this atrocious contract for 3 Years.. What a joke.. why don't they just make one of us GM so I don't have to deal with this ****.

Spacek's money was clearing.. which we could of used to re-sign guys.. think ahead you **** off.

I'm not saying Kaberle sucks at the moment, but remember last year he costs the Bruins 2 TWO! first rounders. and that was just last year, hopefully he can reignite his career. Remember him and plecky are friends too.

Lateral move that will cost when we'll have to resign Subban and Price.

What if Kaberle pick up where he left with the leafs maybe playing in a hockey market will help him gain confidence + IMO we have more offensive weapon to help Kaberle than the canes so im sure he will do well especially on the PP.

just give the guy a chane to prove himself ...

And maybe PG have another deal in head... I hope

I wonder if this doesn't signal the end of Markov for the year, if not for good? As for Kaberle, he and Hal Gill on a line? Might work?

Markov-Emelin
Kaberle-Subban
Diaz-Gorges
Campoli/Weber/Gill

Weber can play foward and I don't care about Gill and Campoli. This could be great if Kaberle get back on his feets.

People were laughing at the Bruins and that deal not that long ago. Were laughing at Kaberle for being incredibly stupid at times and really really bad and somehow....it's a good move now? Either people aren't consequent. Either people are just lowering so much their expectations that even a guy they were laughing at is just better than what we have.....Sad.

The good news? Hey, at this time, he can only surprise us and in a good way.

His value as at all time high though. But we won't mind trading him.

WHat has Kaberle done lately to make you think he is capable of breaking out?

Markov's on IR. Gomez could be put there if he isn't already, he hasn't played in a while. Right now they've got plenty of cap room.

Kaberle's cap hit is only .500 thousand more than Spacek's. It's the term that may bite Montreal in the butt here. Freaking out over this trade is strange IMO.

2 more years at 4m, who cares? Man, you people overreact.

This is probably Spacek's last NHL contract and the guy is hurt ALL the time.

I like this deal, a lot.

I guess Markov is simply not coming back this year and the Habs know it but won't say anything and keep patching holes like they have done for the last 15 + years
