Brayden Schenn suffered a concussion his first game back , he's out indefinately.
Poor kid can't catch a break, third injury this year and it's only December
Pronger is suspected to have one too. Turns out thta 'mysterious virus' that the Flyers reported he had after getting hit in the eye with a puck is probably a concusison. He's going to the same doctor who treated Crosby
That is too bad and I might sound callous but the more this happens, the more it looks like the Kings really cleaned up on that trade. Although, there are still a few people out there that probably disagree.

Right? I mean I hate to see Schenn go down, but it certainly does make you go....well...heh...guess we got the better of that.

Not saying that it wasn't a good trade because it was, but how do you figure? The guy we got for him is out with a concussion too...

Did they ever actually say it was a concussion? Curious, i had just heard upper body injury. it looked a lot on the play like he could have hurt his shoulder

I'm just saying that at least Richards has a track record in the NHL. Schenn has been riddled with injuries just trying to get in the line up regularly. Put it this way, I'd trade Schenn/Simmonds and 2nd rounder for Richards right now with them both unhealthy.
Richards has had surgeries on both shoulders in the recent past and is now out with an "Upper Body Injury" that required time in the concussion quiet room.
At this pace there is a chance that Simmonds plays more NHL games this season than those 2 combined.
To be fair... if Richards had a concussion, it was a mild one, because he was riding the stationary bike a few days ago. That's a no-no if someone has a concussion.

THe shoulder surgery wasn't recent , it was two and a half years ago (April 2009 post season) and he didn't miss any time for that.
Until the hit on the 1st, he only missed 4 games in the last three years, playing 242 out of a possible 246 and they were due to the flu.
And that's not counting the games in the Olympics.
He's played 87% out of a possible 492 games in his six years (thru last season)
I feel bad for Schenn. I don't think it has any real impact on the trade this early. He is still a blue chip prospect and can turn into anything at this point. It did what it was meant to do, give Kings results immediately, and give the Flyers probable results in the not-so-distant future.

Right? That's what I though.
Pretty sure it's a shoulder or hand thing.
I mean the guy also wasn't dazed enough to NOT go whole hog after Bergenheim when he was hit for a solid 2 minutes.

Is this an assumption on your part or a fact? I only heard Jim and Bob speculate that he might be in the quiet room but never saw or heard anyone say he had a concussion.

All of this I find to be strange. I can't think of a time, in the modern era, that a team didn't tell the press about a star players concussion.

Right. "He was riding the stationary bike" is an often used update by coaches and GM's that essentially means the player no longer has (or doesn't have) a concussion. They can't ride a stationary bike if they have one, so it's an easy thing for fans to deduce.
I imagine he had his bell rung a little bit - when he was sitting in the box after the hit/scrum, he had that deer in headlights look a time or two as he was looking at the jumbotron and around the ice, but it wasn't significant or he would have gone to the dressing room immediately.

(LA Kings Insider) Richards was cleared by a doctor today to increase his activity and began skating. No practice green light yet but I expect the yellow jersey will be okayed maybe by next week.
Concussion was never diagnosed and from the way his head snapped back, it might be his neck. The quiet room is used for doctor to examine/question a player who might havfe a head injury.
Anyway, good news for the Kings, hopefully he's back in action by next home stand (12/22)
This summer at Stoll's golf tourney, I spoke to Schenn for a bit. It was the day the trade went down and he was very excited. What suprised me the most is he looked like he was 170 lbs. He was tiny framed compaired to his peers. I am not suprised by the injuries. Hope he can battle through it and get back soon.
