uh no

Markov was supposed to play with the team in the california trip.
But unexpected things happened
Markov went to see a doctor and a new minor surgery is needed. The first results said 3 weeks or so.
After reviewing, it went to 4-6 weeks

Had he said 10 weeks right at the beginning then Canes GM would have had more bargaining power knowing PG was more desperate.

Yeah because we're better off playing 4 rookies than a guy who has like 500 NHL games and is a legit NHL top 4 guy...brilliant!

That makes no sense, he has a scope to clean out the knee, that's usually a 2-4 week thing.

He's a bottom pairing guy whom nobody wanted in the summer... He wasn't that good in Ottawa and average in Chicago. He's an Off D that doesn't provide much offense. Diaz is already better than him, and we have enough small d-men as it is.

Why's everybody so hung up on CHRIS CAMPOLI?!

take it for what it's worth...

I have a good friend heavily involved in the medical scene in Montreal, knows all the top surgeons including many who have worked on habs players (not Markov in this case as his surgery was done in Florida I believe".

Being montrealers, habs are often topic of conversation.

to quote:
"in speaking with ***'s doctor this morning, he said what's troubling about Markov's case is that this is the 3rd scope after a 2nd ACL... VERY bad sign".

now, I'm no Dr., so i don't know what relevance there is to how many scopes a person requires after X amount of ACL reconstructions... but the Dr. he was talking to is a joint specialist, and works on high profile athletes regularly, so I take it he knows his stuff.

Perhaps part of the rush to get Kaberle has to do with the realization by the habs brass that Markov isn't just delayed, but may be a long shot to actually make it back this year or beyond... it would almost make a bit more sense in terms of the risk in taking on Kaberle's contract.

in any case, what is clear amidst all the speculation, is that Markov's recovery is not going well, and he's going to be out for quite some more time.

I have no idea. He's a complete nobody (meaning a player of little consequence, not that no one should have reason to know who he is) who became a topic of conversation briefly in his rookie season, and then again for the first couple weeks after joining Ottawa. Bottom pairing is almost flattering, imo, since it could imply that he's someone you wouldn't mind having as a 5/6 guy on an actual good team with Cup aspirations.

One other thing I don't understand from the Kaberle trade... why Gauthier did not wait for Campoli? he knew he was close to a comeback, just give him a 4-5 game period to see the PP

Campoli is just a trigger man, he has a good shot. The habs would still have no puck distributor at the point which is the biggest problem.

At this point in his career I'd rather have Campoli on the bottom pairing than Gill or Weber(who has been nothing short of atrocious), so yes bringing him back does improve the team, even only slightly.

Weber has struggled the past couple weeks, not sure why people paint his whole season like that. For the most part he's been one of the bright spots on the team and was playing big minutes when we had 3-4 guys out.

Gill has definitely had a rough year, hopefully his spot in the lineup is not etched in stone as he's had some roungh nights and I don't want Emelin and co scratched every night.

I think ideally the top 4 until Markov is back sould be...Campoli is more ready for top 4 minutes than Gill, Emelin Weber or Diaz.

What makes you think NOBODY wanted him?

He was only a UFA in August after his arbitration hearing, not July 1st, so by then a lot of teams were either "capped out" or spent to their budget or had signed others to fill holes. If he was a UFA from July 1st he would have probably ended up getting a 2-3 year deal at 2-3 mil/year.

Not saying he is a star, but he is a solid guy that can definitely be an upgrade over playing rookies as #3-4 d-men. He solid across the board, has no glaring weaknesses and his skating is above average.

I was so impressed with young Emelin, and I fear he's the one who suffers the most from all of PG's moves.
