If I were a GM, even for a team having trouble reaching the cap floor, I would laugh at you if you offered me Gomez. A guy who's getting paid 7 M and pots about 10 goals in 2 seasons (he's lucky IMO if he even scores three this season).
Only way we get rid of his contract is if we a) buy him out (ain't happening) b) bury him (might happen but very unlikely) c) trade him and offer our first rounder too with the counterpart offering nothing.
Fact is that if I was PG I would lock Price up for as long as he wants and for as much money he wants. He is going to costs us more than many of you think. I think he'll get atleast a 5 year deal, for around 6,2 M (Rinne got 7 M).
Gorges, Subban could be looking at 3-4 M each.
E) Cammy to Washington.. well.. only possible deal I could see developing is a Cammy + for Laich +.. I really like Brooks so I'd approve a deal like this. I don't think GMGM will move his defensemen.
More moves are coming because when Markov comes back we are in CAP trouble according to NHL numbers, so in my opinion, it's time to start shopping Campoli, possibly Kostitsyn and hopefully Gomez as well.
More than likely, we will see Weber and/or Diaz traded soon.
Our only alternatives are gonna be to ship Gomez and/or Cammy. And looking towards the Bulldogs roster for an answer is not to be considered as a feasible one.
And the return for Gomez is questionable at best and for Cammy, well, can't say his value is at an all time high, especially with his cap hit.
Looking forward:

We have no capspace problem.
St-Denis is sent down, Engqvist also. So remove them from the cap.
Plus everybody who is on INJ-R, doesn't count against the cap. And its calculated with prorata. So that means if a player miss a quarter of the season (+/- 20 games) and his salary is 8M$, we will have 2M$ to dance with for the 60 remaining games.
So with Gomez, Markov, Campoli, Spacek all out during a lot of games. We have enough capspace to welcome Kaberle's salary and I'd say even another 1 to 2 M$.
My guess for Gomez is that he gets picked up by another team on re-entry waivers (like Calgary). I don't agree with the idea of sending him to Hamilton, buying him out or picking up someone else's garbage in exchange for him. We'll save close to $4 million in cap space and we'll be done with his contract in 2 more years after this.
I'd rather send him to the minors the have to eat half his contract on the cap hit for two years!
Cap hit goes with him if sent to the AHL!
I just hope Gauthier doesn't trade a top prospect, pick or young player in another bad move before finally getting canned. Our future can't be toyed with cause of bad management.

I would eat half of Gomez's salary because we are a first class organization and not for any other reason. Also, unlike other players in a similar situation, Gomez has been a classy guy and as far as I know not dissed the team or management and put forth an honest effort on and off the ice.

I hope management doesn't deal away prospects or picks in a last-ditch effort to make the playoffs. This team has some talented prospects, but they are a few years away from making any kind of impact.

same here, however i'm not opposed to trading Cammy or another underperforming vet (dont even need to mention Gomez, but if we're out of the playoffs I wouldnt mind seeing Gill, Moen, etc. go to contenders)
but there's no reason to trade away our future for a shot at being knocked out in the first round...
at a certain point (we're not there yet, but close) you kinda just have to accept that it's "one of those seasons" and do your best to get ready for next year. Blame it on injuries, coaching, whatever you want, but this team is close to being done...i know it's still early in the year but the East seems very strong this year and if we keep on losing we're gonna be out of the playoff race very soon.
that being said, GO HABS! hope Kaberle can step up
