That's the thing with concussions, look at Marc Staal. He came back and played after his late last season, is just starting to skate now and says he hopes to play this season. You just can't predict the outcome. A lot also depends on the direction of the hit.
Pens fan in peace. Terrible news about Pronger. Sucks to see your captain out with a concussion, we know how you feel. You guys have a great team, you'll bounce back. Goodluck. See ya on the 29th!
Why, who do the Penguins have out of the line-up with a concussion?
I've said it a million times before and I get flack big time every time...BUT
Philly will never achieve anythig with Pronger on their team. He's done. Finished. They need to figure out a way to dump his contract and get him replaced. Asap.
I wonder if this means that Holmgren will begin shopping for a top four defenseman. If I'm the GM of the Flyers, I shut Pronger down for the rest of the year and maybe the start of the playoffs.
Haha, don't RELY on this guy for anything including PO availability/
Assume two things:
a. he will never play again, or
b. failing (a) he will play minimal amounts of time and will be half as good as he used to be..
I am writing this down and guaranteeing it. (actually I did so last year also).
Pronger= Finished.
I think we all know Pronger is finished but most don't want to admit it.
I think were startin to come to terms with that....its just that they sell it to you in a way that makes it seem like he just had a virus not a career ending concussion!

Jeez, the guy hasn't even seen the specialist yet and he passed his original base line test last week but people are already putting him out to pasture.
Willie Mitchell and Recchi had much worse concussions late in their careers and cme back.
Some guys that may be able to be acquired without breaking the bank...
Sutton - big, physical and would offer a poor man's version of Pronger. (@$2MM)
Beauchemin - eats up mins and blocks a ton of shots. (@ $3.8MM)
Bob McKenzie said they've completely shut him down and he's speculating that it was a hit during the Phoenix game where he was checked and his face met the glass that was the culprit.

Yeah, we all need to come to terms with some stuff.
Say, as long as we're all coming to terms w/ things, are you willing to admit that we overpaid for Bryzgalov and he's been 2nd rate thus far?
I mean there's a heck of a lot more evidence to support that than there is to support the conclusion that Pronger is done, so if you're willing to make that leap, you have to be willing to make some admissions about Bryz... right?

Ha Ha Ha! Duh and NO! The evidence you speak of is based off your impatience with a guy tryin to adjust to a new team. After gettin a bunch of starts in succession, he's looked like a winner to me. (i have one wandering eye and the other is partially blind tho)

You're right. Silly me.
20 games of incompetence isn't near enough to judge Bryz. Neither is his horrible playoff run last year.
But, a concussion (the first one for Pronger in how long?) and a minor arthroscopic knee procedure and a FLUKE puck to the face mean Pronger is done.
Good call.
Clearly you win the battle of evidence here.
In all seriousness, what probably happened is that the Flyers found out about the concussion and figured it'd be a good time to get his knee scoped. So they had that done, but now he isn't going to be ready to play as early as they thought he would.
Honestly, I'm not worried. This team just keeps on winning w/o Pronger. All we need Pronger for (if we need him @ all) is the playoffs.
OUT INDEFINITELY
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren made a statement concerning the injury status of defenseman Chris Pronger:
While Chris' knee is improving, he has struggled with other issues that are concussion-like symptoms. Chris will see Dr. Joe Maroon and Dr. Mickey Collins on Wednesday, December 14th in Pittsburgh for further evaluation. Chris will be out indefinetly.
Holmgren also addressed the status of rookie forward Brayden Schenn, who has missed the last two games due to an upper-body injury.
Brayden reported “not feeling himself” on December 5th. Our doctors believe he has a mild concussion. Brayden will be out indefinitely.
What type of virus was this..
That sucks, but I think most of us have thought there was something like this all along anyway. Hopefully he can come back later this year with (somewhat) healthy shouldners and knees though.

Agreed. Assuming Gustafsson and Lilja aren't too far away, there's no need for anything really drastic. Timonen-Coburn, Mes-Carle, Acquisition-Gustafsson/Lilja looks solid enough for me. No need for any panic trades or anything at the moment when Bourdon, and Marshall to some extent as well, have shown that they can fill in adequately.

This is just silly. We're first in the conference. Timonen is playing like he did when he first came here, we made it to the ECF with a banged up defense and a young forward crew then. No reason to give up on this season at all.

I've never been impressed with Klein, so I would say no to this. Anytime I watch him he is a turnover machine.

Hannan's deal is one year, cheap, and he's not a bad player. With Lilja, Pronger and Schenn on LTIR we have cap space to burn yet Hannan contract ($1m) doesn't really hurt us if 2 of the 3 come back, leave the other on the list for now (Lilja preferably but we haven't exactly NEEDED Schenn yet so it's no massive loss though it would suck a bit).
Depending on how people play you could either try and resign one or both of Carle and Hannan or let them walk and hit the free agency with cap to use and try and get Prongers replacementif he's done and out (on the list permanently like Laperriere). Timonen is also not gonna last forever despite playing like a beast atm... We could do with an elite younger D player.
Just requires the cost of Hannan not to be too high...
Hannan makes a lot of sense. The problem is perhaps that he does so for most teams in the league. We have those shiny 2nd rounders though...

Yeah. Let's wait a little while before we take Pronger to the farm upstate.

Yea. i agree with you on pronger. i responded to the other guy's post because i do feel like he is falling apart all at once. As far as Bryzgalov, I know he struggled in the beginning of the year and was streaky (with the rest of the team) but he has been winning. The real problem is that contract has distorted alot of people's view of him. I know you watch alot of hockey and love the Flyers but dude, you know this guy is good. He took on alot coming here. He is human. I think he really plays a different more controlled style of goal then we've ever had here. ever. and we overcompensated to help him in the beginning and it was a trainwreck. Every goalie lets in goals that dont seem perfect from time to time, but i am happy we have him. i'm happy laviolette started him the last 2 back to backs. He can be better. But he is winning. and he's even been helping us win lately. What are you one of these Vokoun guys?

I know, I was just giving you some Bryz jabs. I obviously hope he becomes the stud we all know he can be. And I believe he will too. He's shown flashes lately, which is more than I could say earlier in the year. Now he just needs to be consistently great like he was in that Pens game. I'm not ready to say the contract was a good thing (b/c even if Bryz plays awesome, it was still a ridiculous price to pay), but it won't be Bryz's fault. Can't blame the dude for getting all he could. At any rate, I digress. Who gives about the cap hit if we win a Cup?
As far as Pronger goes, my point is it's ridiculous how these people are saying he's breaking down. The knee thing is the result of old-age, but that was only gonna be a 4 week thing. No big deal. The puck to the face thing has nothing to do w/ Pronger breaking down. It was a fluke injury that could happen to anyone. Likewise, the concussion thing is the same, a fluke injury that could've happened to anyone sustaining similar contact to the head. Concussions have nothing to do w/ getting older, unless you have a history of them which Pronger does not. In fact, concussions are more common w/ younger players these days. W/ Pronger having been in several giant collisions in the past w/ no problems, I'd actually say it's likely that he can sustain contact better than the average NHLer.
At any rate, Pronger will be fine, this team will be fine, and everyone needs to stop overreacting.

I'm wit you on all this. especially some talking about tradin this one or that. panic moves for a well coached team that is currently in 1st place over a quarter into the season are stupid.
I read all the Jagr stuff over on the other thread. i aint even touchin that. thats some funny shiz tho. we got some crazy, unstable fans (me included)
I don't think making a knee jerk trade is ever the answer. But I do think this may be a good oppurtunity given our cap space, to try and get a guy like suter or weber. However, considering the chances of that happening are probably extremely low especially this early in the preds season, Im fine with waiting and seeing how the team plays in the next month or so here.
If by the end of the month, the defense is showing signs of wearing down, you make a trade.
If that were the case, beauchemin is a guy I would look hard at.
