From what i've read about Darvish, he's less of a wild card because most guys who come to America are considerably older and were never really as dominant.

I think the guy has the tools to be great in America, and since he has yet to enter his prime whatever team invests in him will definitely benefit.

Compared to past big name Japanese pitchers that have come over (Irabu, Nomo, Igawa, Dice K, etc) Darvish as the lowest ERA out of all of them by far and his W/L ration is better as well. All of his stats are head and shoulders above the rest that have come here prior to him. Plus he is still young.

"Darvish is the No. 1 pitcher in Japan, but we want him to become the ace of the world," Nippon Ham team representative Toshimasa Shimada said.

Compare that to the insecure Russians and they way they talk about their players who plan on bolting to the NHL.

To be honest I just assumed he was already used too much, burning out his arm. I mean it's the Yankees so if he doesn't work out with a big salary it's not that huge of a deal, but in general I like to stay away from bringing in Japanese pitchers. This guy sounds like an exception but obviously, I haven't done my homework on him.

Darvish is free (well, except for the whole money thing), so why not go after him? The Yankees have been unusually silent so far - which has been impressive, because I don't think any of the players available would really have been good fits. No reason not to shoot the moon on Darvish, IMO - not every Japanese pitcher is going to flame out and he is the one available wild card that actually seems to fit the team's needs. Igawa comes off the books this year anyway, right? So, roll the dice - he appears to be the real deal.

Igawa is a FA.

The thing about Darvish is that he has a very hard fastball and slurve that he compliments extremely well with 4 other average to above average pitches. Most pitchers don't have that many different types of pitches at their disposal and most certainly do not have that many average or above average.

I remember some people saying that Igawa had good stuff as well (not as good as Darvish). What they forgot to tell everyone is that he leaves it over the plate on regular basis.

Ryan Braun tested positive for PEDs. What a joke.

I just heard and came here to post this. Unreal, I am honestly shocked.

I still love the guy, had him last year on the last leg of a 3 year deal on my fantasy team. Won me the championship and 1,000 dollars. Love you Braun, but you are dumb.

couldn't believe it when I heard it. Not someone I would have ever thought would test positive.

I've become numb to PED usage. It's gotten so bad I just don't care anymore

Even though there's testing, apparently players are still using.

I just don't care anymore. Really.

Mets prospect Fernando Martinez is now property of Houston Astros. Mets placed him on waivers to make room on 40-man roster.

Yankees trade Montero to Seattle for Michael Pineda.

http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/stor...-jesus-montero

Noesi also goes to SEA, Jose Campos to NYY.

IMO it's a desperation move by Cash. He is a high risk, high reward pitcher. Look at his home and away record especially after the allstar break. Safeco ballpark skewed his ERA.

In the end, pitching is what wins. The Yankees can always add a bat through free agency, but besides CC they've had a tougher time adding quality pitchers through free agency.

Yankees signed Kuroda to a 1-year deal also.

At least Burnett is as good as gone.

But I am definitely concerned about the Yankees lacking a young impact hitter going forward. Especially when players like Swish and Tex consistently screw up offensively in the playoffs.

Big gamble. Big.

Don't like the trade. Seattle isn't NY.

When was the last time the Yankees traded for a young arm and that young arm met or exceeded?

I'm drawing a blank

Seattle fans are ecstatic...... I hope this doesn't end up being Jay Buhner-type deal.
