Ok, I agree with you there, if this team were just a wee bit better, they would have two home playoff games guaranteed, and thus, $6 million to offset some of the loss. Another 2 playoff games next year, and the loss is almost voided, and if they have any success at all, they would even make a profit.

The only wat Markov's contract can be considered bad is if he returns and plays at a level below the cap hit.

Otherwise we essentially just own his rights.

Imagine his value at the deadline...

Maybe we can add Kaberle to the "worst" side? Anyway now I'm fairly sure our team has more than our share of bad and terrible contracts.

More than our share.

Cammalleri, Gionta, Gomez, Kaberle, Markov

That's just awful.

Question, for Markov how much $ of his contract will be counted on the cap, lets say he comes back in late jan, that leaves him half a season, dosnt that only mean that we pay half his contract and nhlpa insurance pays other half. ???

Worst
1) Gomez
2) Kaberle
3) Cammy - He's small and we don't have a big C and big winger to insulate him and open up room for him to snipe.

Best?
1) Plekanec
2) Pacioretty
3) Moen - re-sign this guy, clearly he wants management to see he's worthy of it.

The cap hit works on a per day basis - either per day of each day of the year, or per day of the season. I'm not sure which one.

So effectively, Markov's contract doesn't count against the cap until he returns off the injury list. At that point, how ever much the team needs to pay him (per day, based on whatever criteria the NHL uses), will count against the Habs' cap.

Up until he gets injured again

The contract of an injured player always counts.

I wish someone would photoshop a picture of the Habs' best paid players smiling with $$$ in their hands with a title saying "Paid, Made and Laid".

Long term Injury $ room is the only thing keeping us from getting the first place in Cap Space. Once Markov is back or before that, there will definitely be some salaries moving. Expect a trade.
