Oh no... I know what's gauthier next move... he's going to sign Bryan McCabb to a contract and bring back the connection... It's gonna be a lethal power play !

Weber will probably be traded for a pick

Gomez will be sent to Hamilton for 2012-2013

If some GM is dumb enough to give something valuble for Gionta or Cammalleri, do it asap (but PG is usually the sucker when he's dealing so don't count on it).

I called getting a top 4 dman, just yesterday.

Now I'm calling Lecavalier for Desharnais, Gomez and Weber!

Issues we run into with trades are as follows.

Scott Gomez
Mike Cammalleri
Tomas Plekanec
Brian Gionta
Erik Cole
Andrei Markov

All of them have some form of no-trade clause in their contracts. Makes it difficult to move them; especially somebody as useless as Gomez who we all can't wait to get rid of.

I'm thinking Kostitsyn and Weber may be packaged sooner or later because we won't be able to resign Kostitsyn. Gionta may also be used as trade bait since he's not getting any younger and could give us cap room. Moreover, with Gallagher probably on the roster at some point next year you'd have too many small guys in the line-up. So

You're dreaming if you think Gionta will be traded. He's our captain and the organization (especially gauthier and martin) highly value him. I'm not saying a captain never gets traded but I can assure you as long as gauthier is the GM Gionta will never be traded.

The players that are mostly susceptible to be traded are in that order:

Weber
AK
Cammalleri

Gomez of course should be at the top of the list bu we all know he won't be traded.

Gionta and Gomez don't fit within Martin's system and/or with the other players on the roster.

Martin has tried almost every possible line combo and getting players from within and from without and none of them has had any magic or success for any length of time. Cammalleri/Pleks/AK is a better balanced line than Cammalleri/Pleks/Gionta. Last year when Martin put a hot AK on the same line as Gomez/Gionta his production went into a tail spin. Pacioretty plays better with DD. Eller doesn't fit on that line either. Pouliot was brought in and that didn't work either.

I agree with you about Gionta and Martin but Gionta still has to go and he can take Gomez with him.

Maybe they think they can buy out both Gomez and Kaberle when the supposed buy out period comes with the next CBA

I like your feeling better them mine, which is Gorges will be traded or walk away via free agency. If Washington continues to spiral, I would certainly consider that Semin/WSH first pick. We could luck out in that being a fairly decent pick and if Semin walks, we have cap. Not saying I would necessarily commit however it would be cause to pause.

makes no sense to trade someone who'll be UFA at seasons end for someone you'll have to buy out to get rid of...

Agreed, and assuming the cba will include a compliance buyout is silly to begin with. The only way the buyout option happens is if there is significant changes to the salary cap structure.

The only reason this option was included before was to give everyone a clean slate and allow them to not be handcuffed by contracts they signed prior to the salary cap implementation, now the cap is already here and unless there is significant change, I don't expect the buyout option to return.

Diaz and Emelin are both going to be making more than they make now. Same with Kostitsyn if he stays. Price will get more than 5 mill. I can see it now. "you think I'm only 750,000 dollars more valuable than Tomas Kaberle?"

Very strong post. I understand your position, and I agree with it. Kaberle is allowed, but beyond that, I think Molson should shut them down.

We may just now have a coach and GM trying to protect their own interests rather than building long term winning team. Molson will have to watch for that.

Honestly adding Kaberle is sort of a blessing. It forces us to move Gomez or let go of Kost or Gorges. If we let Gorges walk you can bet Gauthier will be fired. I'm afraid what's going to happen is we'll just let Andrei go for nothing. Right now this whole thing makes me thing we're aiming for 9th place. Kaberle is not a saviour, but he'll get us a couple more points. I'll be beyond pissed if we are picking 13th or 14th in the draft, when we would have been better off picking top 10.

LG you know that we agree on general direction and strategy. You and I believe in collecting picks, and we know why.

We also know that Caps are dying for a cup. Now is the time to attack yes? I could not agree more. This seems the perfect time to trade Cammy to a team that needs his proven playoff performance to lift the cup. This year. Now.

Cammy is our greatest opportunity to gain very good draft picks while we are have no chance at winning the cup.

But sadly LG, there is no way the Caps give us that top 3 pick for Cammy. You know it, and I know it.

I do think PG should try to make it happen though. Why not try. I just do not feel that there is enough fear in the Caps organization to push them into giving us this pick.

This is extremely frustrating. Habs need to wangle a top 3 pick, NOW, while Price is still young, we both agree on this. But the days of stupid GM's are long gone.

We need a club with a GM that is very close to a cup, and very afraid of not winning one. Caps are not this team, yet. There is just not enough fear there for us to take advantage of.

Burke may be the last idiot to give up first round picks with a bad team. That window has closed.

I am at a loss now to imagine how the Habs will ever pick top 3. I really am.
