Hemsky's attitude has been piss poor. Its ugly when he has an A on his shoulder. Dont pout man. Everyone sees it, even Renney had to address it. Thats what bugs me the most.
Also interesting convo b/w Spector and Gregor. Hemsky never works a little extra after practice, he never really stays in the room after it, doesnt really hang out with the guys. You gotta look at Pittsburgh and the camaraderie they have built. Thats what the Oilers should strive for.
This has been Hemsky's MO since he's entered the league. He's always been the quiet guy in the dressing room and on the bench. He's always been a guy who doesn't play around on the ice after practice. Quite literally the exact same things were said about him when our next big producing players were going to be Nilsson, Cogliano and Gagner. The only change I see in his body language right now is that he looks frustrated things aren't going well right now.
He is expendable. You have 4 guys in RNH,Hall,Eberle, and Gagner in top 6 plus Smyth and Horcoff. You move him at the trade deadline for whatever you can get and sigh with relief when someone offers him 5+ per year for 5 years on July 1st.
Changing the subject, how exactly did Gagner get an assist on that Eberle goal?
He let the puck go through his legs and it was great awareness, but he never actually touched the puck did he? And wasn't it the d-man who passed it to Hopkins prior to that?

Someone must've thought that Gagner touched that puck. It doesn't look like he did to me.
But at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter who get credited for the assist.
Nope it doesn't really. It's just odd. That's usually something the NHL is pretty good at getting right. Gagner deliberately doesn't touch the puck. On one hand I guess you could easily say he deserves an assist on not touching it. Just seemed weird to me. It was pretty obvious he didn't get a stick on it.
This thread has me smh with some of the trade hemsky for a 6th rounder stuff. I've said it before Hemsky with one shoulder>>>>>>>>dressing anybody else on the roster. If we deal him for nothing it could be the difference between making and missing the playoffs.

But the Oilers are going through a change. Things like taht should change with it. You want a team that is as tight as possible, you watch 24/7 with Caps and Pens. The difference btwn the 2 team is remarkable.
Maybe Hemsky should stay after practice ya know. Maybe itll help him work on his passing game, maybe he should stay around the room and analyze his work on the PP. Yes hes frustrated right now, but maybe he should put more work onto the ice before and after practice to help work on some of the things

I'll honestly never believe what the media says about Hemsky, we all know the guy doesn't speak to them, they can say whatever they want about him and he still wont respond. He just seems like an easy target.
It blows my mind how quickly people turn on Hemsky. The best offensive hockey player on this team for 6 years in a row.
He's battled through a plethora of injuries, surgery on both shoulders, countless days of rehab and in what might be his first prolonged cold streak since before the lockout everyone jumps on him: Useless, he doesn't care, should be a healthy scratch ect... it's insane and shows a massive lack of appreciation and respect for a player who has night in and night out throughout his career put his body on the line in order to make the hard play for this team. For years this team has struggled in large part because it has had no secondary scoring. If Hemsky wasn't putting up points, no one was. Now, for the first time it looks like this team is finally developing some offense that can score on a consistent basis outside of Ales Hemsky. And what does everyone want to do...? Lets trade Hemsky because we don't need him anymore. I honestly wonder who people think the Oilers have to replace Hemsky on the right-wing. Our current 3rd line right-winger is Ryan Jones. Do people really think he can be a top 6 producer? Who else? Paajarvi on the off-wing? His 3 points and zero goals sure would look great there.... I'd rather not point out the irony of the suggestion of Sam Gagner on the RW considering the popular opinion on him a handful of games ago.
Tyler Pitlick? Teemu Hartikainen? These guys aren't even at the point in their careers where they can be consistent point producers in the AHL level, let alone the NHL.
Scoring depth is never a bad thing to have. It allows for situations like this for when one of your scores is cold you can have some other players pick up the slack. The short-sightedness is incredible. What happens with Eberle and Hopkins go on a stretch where they aren't producing at 1PPG+? All of a sudden Ales Hemsky being a player who has proven he can score in this league at a consistent basis throughout his entire career might prove to a valuable asset to have on this team. Hemsky is not playing well, not able to deny that. I thought his game against the Canes was the worst game I've seen from him in years. Just like with Gagner though, I'm willing to give him time to work through this slump. I'm not ready to just jump ship.
I agree with a lot of what you're saying but the reason why i personally have been hard on him is because he is clearly not giving a full effort on most nights and i'm not so sure that it's fully attributed to injuries because how do you explain his dominance in the 3rd against Columbus? If he was injured, he wouldn't have been able to just turn it on seemingly out of nowhere and dominate a period with aggressive hitting and creating offense. He was playing great with Hall and was giving an honest effort before Hall went down, the injuries didn't seem to bother him then.
I appreciate what Hemsky has brought to the team over the years but what i absolutely can't stand is a player who half ***** it on the ice, that is simply unacceptable and i have seen way too much of that from him on this homestand and as i said before, i bet you that it goes beyond him possibly playing with an injury IMO.
I'm thinking that he's not too happy with not being the go to guy anymore. At least with Hall on his line, it was more of a 1-1A situation with the top lines at least offensively but now with Smyth on the line, it has become more of a veteran defensively responsible line and i think that frustrates him.
Not turning on Hemsky, but decisions need to be made going forward. Listened to Renney's comments carefully on Hemsky.
Basically it came down to being able to play a different role than he has in the past and embracing it. Can he do that?
I really have not liked his body language, his slow skate to the bench when things do not ho his way. You don't trade him to make a trade but if there is a trade than can help the team, Tambo needs to consider it.

Must have changed it after the game? I did not think he touched it either.
Guess I can be "accused" of jumping on Hemsky's case, but I can't be accused of doing it now that he's struggling. I go back at least a couple years or so, as saying we should cut bait with this player and move on. He is very talented, no question, but his injury record is not good. And it seems for every good play he makes, there is another or 2 where the puck is given up in a vulnerable position. I wish like hell he could turn it around, but I have serious doubts about it. We've heard every excuse in the book on here. How he just needs better players, no one else can think the game like him, etc, etc..blah, blah, blah. I think he's one more good hit from going into the infirmary once again ...just watch. Never been a huge fan, always thought more style than substance.
Everyone on here has players they don't care for. Sam Gagner and Shawn Horcoff have taken endless heat on here, no matter what they do. But Hemsky, for some, should be immune to any critisism and put on a pedestal. At the end of the day, he is what he is. A talented player that has been crippled by injuries, a player who tends to overthink the game, and is having trouble adjusting to not being the big fish is a formerly very small pond. I await being proven wrong, and will be more than happy with that if it comes to fruition. And with contracts coming up shortly for talented youth, I don't see a "Patrick Sharp" type of future for him. This is a player I can see gone by trade deadline.
Summed up my view pretty much. We just came to a point where he is going to be an UFA, we either cut ties and get something in return, re-sign him to a new contract or risk losing him for nothing.

So the media made all that up about Hemsky's practice tendency? That has been mentioned in the media for a few years. If they fabricated that, wouldn't you think Hemsky himself(if he cares), his teammates, captains, coaches like MacT, Quinn, Renney be coming out to defend him and clarify things?

Yes it does. You are suggesting Hemsky is great, then obviously we should keep him or other team should line up to bid for him if he becomes an UFA. So what is a fair contract for Hemsky to get from us or other team if and when he becomes a UFA at the end of the season? And What do you think Hemsky is willing to sign for? Or you can keep dancing around this.

So by not addressing it the oilers are saying it's true. That's nonsense. I'm sure it will be addressed once Hemsky is traded and a tidal wave of internet articles surface calling Hemsky a cancer and we'll discover that Hemsky got that scar on his neck in a knife fight with Smytty.

I'm not going to answer that because the $$$ don't matter. The years are more important than anything. If I name a number were going to get into a debate about that, which is not relevant. It all depends. The oilers have 30 million to spend this summer with Eberle, Hall and Nugent Hopkins still on the books another year. To go along with your logic, if the oilers really believe in this guy, they'll make an effort to keep him, if not then I'll wish him the best elsewhere.
And define great. I'm not sure what you mean by that. Hemsky is a first liner, and he's had years where he's been an elite first liner, top 10 at his position. Spawns post sums up my feelings perfectly, the fact that people want to trade this guy for nothing pretty much ruins any credibility those posters have.

Which poster said we have to trade Hemsky for nothing?
The $$$ don't matter? Both the $$$ and length of contract are relevant. There will be 20+ teams lining up to sign him as UFA if Hemsky ask for say $3.5M for 4 yrs, but if he is after a $4.5M - $5M five yrs contract, i doubt there will be very much people wanting him due to his injuries history and one dimensional player that he is.
You will call him elite first liner, but you won't give a number of how much & how long is a contract we or other bidders should offer him. You call him a Top 10, this is his first time coming towards his UFA status but you also suggested that he would be happy with a 2 yrs contract and money don't matter?
Which Top 10 elite 1st liner first time UFA in the NHL didn't go for and end up getting a long term and big contract? Elite player at their 1st UFA status probably means $5M plus per year in a rough guesstimate, are teams going to line up to pay him that on a long term contract with his injuries history and disinterest plays in his UFA year?

Good post by Spawn and I agree with some of your points as well.
The main issue I have for those supporting Hemsky as a valid secondary scoring option is durability and reliability.
I think there is plenty of evidence to suggest that at this stage of his career Hemsky simply isn't reliable enough to be counted on for consistent secondary scoring. He has become a injury prone player and that isn't likely to get any better with his surgically repaired shoulders. So I don't see this as "turning on Hemsky" as Spawn put it. I see his durability/reliability as the most important factor in determining his value to the team and it must be included in the decision to extend him.

Did they change it? My TSN app had the assists going to RNH and Petry?
Which poster said we have to trade Hemsky for nothing?
At least 2 in the last page or so said the oilers should trade him for whatever they can get and move on.

So what makes you think I was saying we should give that to him. Make him a 2 year deal at a fair salary that fits with what the oilers want to do salary cap wise. I'm not their capologist. If it's too much don't sign him. If a team offers him 5 years that's not something the oilers can match. That goes without saying. All I'm saying is the oilers should try to keep him. There's a lot of people in here that think we shouldn't even make an effort. We wont get anything for him in a trade, we should just keep his rights imho.

I never said he would be happy with it, I don't think he would be happy with any of the offer he gets from any team this summer.

This kind of goes against what you said before but Hemsky is a unique situation, no point in looking for a compareable. But if I'm wrong and he does get 5 years, then again we can't match that.
