Would this be his first concussion? Im surprised his career isn't already over considering the amount of times he gets jarred every game.

Guess how many NCAA players received head injuries from icings last season?

Rangers almost had two in three games.

Change the rule. For every 50 icings, only one or two get negated. Maybe 5 goals a year get scored as a direct result of a negated icing hustle play. And of those 5 goals, how many you think decide games?

If the NHL is going to go full-on wimp mode, be consistent with the full spectrum of the rule book.

This wasn't one of the usual monster hits that he takes from skating with his head down, but Anisimov has GOT to learn how to protect himself out on the ice.

Thank God.

It was a sneaky play by Regher but I can live with it.

McNabb's shot to Mitchell should have been a straight 5 mins.

Hope he's right but I won't believe it til he's in the lineup. Most plays like that where you hit your head don't get you right away. We'll see how he feels tomorrow after a flight back from Buffalo.

So you're advocating changing the rules because there aren't enough game winning goals scored on negated icings? I love the rule the way it is now. I'm sure they will probably change it at some point...but I hope they don't do it anytime soon.

On this particular play Artie certainly didn't help himself.

I suppose removing icing isn't a possibility?

Injuries happen in hockey. They happen a lot less than in football. It is never going to not be a dangerous sport, even if we turn the boards into marshmallows.

That's a good point. Even though hockey's such a faster sport then football with high speed collisions (hits in hockey are FAR faster then they could ever possibly be in the NFL, simply on the fact that you can't run as fast as you can skate), there's less injuries then football. Which means the league really isn't doing too bad in this aspect.

Some radical and some common-sense rule changes will be tested at the NHL's second annual Resarch, Development and Orientation Camp on August 17 and 18.

Follow @sbnation on Twitter, and Like SBNation.com on Facebook.

Aug 9, 2011 - The NHL announced the details for their second annual Research, Development and Orientation Camp on Tuesday, and with the details come the news of some rather extreme, but intriguing, rule changes.

The camp will be held at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto on Wednesday, August 17 and Thursday, August 18, and just as last year, it will feature the top Junior players in the world. It's an opportunity for the prospects to get in front of a bigger audience just as it's an opportunity for the league to test things it otherwise would not have the opportunity to test.

They'll take a look at several of the proposed rules that were tested a year ago at the camp, such as hybrid icing, no-touch icing and different positioning of faceoff circles. Other new posted changes being introduced include 3-on-3 overtime after the current 4-on-4 overtime period, the institution of a five-man shootout instead of the three-man version the NHL uses today, the removal of the trapezoid behind the net, and the rule that all penalties must be served in their entirety
I'm not the only one advocating it. It's not a new idea. The NHL has been toying with the idea for years. Just like the Red Line going away, it'll be a rule in the near future.

I brought up the GWG's to showcase how fruitless an endeavor trying to negate an icing usually is, and in some cases, career changing.

The fact that it was tested in the same trial as the single, central circle faceoff dot does not bode well for it.

the NCAA last year experimented with no-icing on the penalty kill, for what its worth.

Do you actually have stats on this? Your "statistic" sounds like just a wild ass guess, which a lot of times is pretty far from the truth.
