To be fair, I got the Derron Williams trade request from Mike Francesa so I probably should have taken that with a grain of salt... or rather an entire container of salt

I don't understand why anyone thinks NBA 1st rounders carry any value. Unless they're top 10 picks, 1st rounders are so beyond overrated.

Look at the 1st round in any draft in the last 10 years. There's a handful of superstars (90% taken in the top 10) and then a bunch of crapshoots, busts, and decent role players. Hell, even top 10 picks aren't overly special. Usually only 50% of top 10 picks pan out. The best was the Lebron year when he, Wade, Bosh, and Melo were all taken. I'm pretty sure the next best pick in that draft was David West, and then after him it was Kirk Hinrich.

I'm willing to bet that of the three assets being proposed to Orlando, Lopez is the best player out of all of them. I think he's a very good player, but it's the best center in the league by a mile.
Exactly. 1st rounders are really nothing more than a future hope of having a good player. If you're building your team essentially from scratch, they're extremely valuable as its the only way you can land yourself a star player (short of having one hit free agency and throwing a crap ton of money at them). Why wouldn't you trade them unless you feel you can draft a guy equal to or better than Dwight Howard? The NBA is a star-driven league. You rarely win with depth. You win by being top heavy and having the supporting cast to perform around them. You can have 2 top 5 picks there and still end up with crap. There's no guarantee they amount to anything. Take the sure thing when you can.

I would trade 10 years of 1st overall picks for a Dwight Howard.

Same can be said for Lebron, Durant, and a younger Kobe.

Bill Simmons has a few tweets about players like these guys. Elite players like the ones above are capable of giving a team 40+ wins on their own. They automatically make the 1st rounder closer to the back end of the draft than the front. When you add a second player, like a Wade, Carmelo, Williams, etc, you're guaranteeing 15-25 more wins.

It's a no brainer, IMO. It would be the best big man little man combo in the NBA since Shaq and Kobe, who together won 3 straight titles.

CP3 trade was reported as dead as the Lakers pull out. And they trade Odom to Dallas, which basically confirms it.

Chris Paul is going to be a rich man when he successfully sues the NBA for 120 million.

So dumb by the NBA. I heard the Clippers want him, now that would be comical

thats why I don't watch the NBA. top heavy league where the draft is useless and the players command where they go leading to stacked teams. The same stacked teams over and over if you look over a longterm stretch of time

My brother wants to buy season tickets to the nets before they "acquire howard". I just continue to shake my head at him.

Marbury? The first player that comes to my mind when i think of the Nets is Keith van Horn and his super long socks. Almost looked like he was playing in long johns.

I was a diehard Nets fan for years. It was their announced move to Brooklyn that turned me off. Still follow them.

Same here, I had season tickets to Nets games throughout my childhood and loved them. I always had a soft spot for the Knicks as well though. When the Nets announced they were moving I dropped them and switched over completely to the Knicks.

I think I'm just going to do the same, but I also lost interest in the NBA in general. Switched over to following college 100%.

Though I definitely watched the finals last year, wanted Kidd to win a championship.

Van Horn lived on the block behind my house, it was a nice house. Loved that guy when he was a Net.

Kidd, Van Horn, Kittles, Martin, Jefforson, Colins and coached by Byron Scott.

But who could forget Brian Scalabrine

And Dikembe Mutumbo, even though he was Net for like a season or two and didn't do too much.

He is/was my favorite center. Loved that finger wag back and forth after he blocked shots. I used to do that in bball leagues when I was younger.

My favorite Net is Alonzo Mourning. I doubt anyone here shares that feeling.
