Crosby's day to day with concussion symptoms again.

Can't wait to see the glorious comeback again.

Kennedy's contract is dirt cheap at $550k.

Any chance that the Sabres claim him to help out with the injury issues?
I like Miettinen much more than TK.

Tough break for him, no doubt. It'd be nice if the league didn't pimp him quite so hard though.

Have you seen anywhere what the contract for AM looks like?

I haven't seen that piece yet.

That's the only deal-breaker. I suspect it's not just peanuts (taking a guess at $2.1M-or-so).

That's why I was contemplating the TK claim as his deal won't hurt the cap situation and he could help fill a spot instead of a Rochester call up.

The Amerks could use the help that would come from getting someone back if the Sabres claimed TK. And if TK somehow cleared his way to Rochester, that would help the Amerks, as well.

Ottawa Senators Forward Nikita Filatov will finish Season in the KHL.

Quote:
Ottawa Senators forward Nikita Filatov is heading back to Russia to finish off the season with CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League.

The former first-round draft pick wasn't able to establish himself as a top-six forward with the club and was released by the Senators on Monday.

"After a fair amount of discussion with him, we had to determine whether to move him back to Binghamton or go over to play in the KHL," general manager Bryan Murray said. "His preference was to go home for the balance of the year, so we made an agreement with them to have that happen.

"We think that he's a very talent kid that could play some nights and other nights couldn't contribute very much," Murray continued. "I think he has to get stronger - we know he has to get stronger - and be a little more competitive. I think from a talent point of view, he can play in the league and be very successful."

Ottawa still holds his NHL rights should he wish to return to the league in the future.

The 21-year-old Filatov was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the sixth overall pick in 2008. After only playing 44 games in three seasons, and recording only 13 points, the Blue Jackets traded him to the Senators for a third-round pick.

Filatov played nine games with the Senators this season, recording one assist.

In my opinion, I hope Nikita goes back to Russia and finds his Game and comes back next Season with Ottawa and establishes him self as a Top Forward because Filatov has to much talent to just be written off.

I definitely Have to Agree with You. He's got a Ton of Talent but never Seemed to harness it Here.

In Other news, Terry Murray was just Fired as Coach of the LA Kings. John Stevens, is Interim coach.

Two years, one-way deal.

The second might scare any teams off who were thinking of claiming the dude off waivers.

I wouldn't mind him at all, and it's not like he's old or anything, but Nielsen would still be my first pick when it comes to that type of player.

I think his time has passed. The guy has been given chance after chance. He's still only 21 but he has not capitalized on a single chance he's been given. Not exactly tearing up the AHL either.

Corey Trivino permanently removed from BU hockey team:

Quote:
The starting center on the BU men’s ice hockey team was arrested Sunday night and charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery after he allegedly entered the room of a female student and attempted to kiss and grope her.

Corey Trivino (MET’12), the leading scorer in Hockey East, was also charged with two counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime and one count of assault with attempt to ****. Trivino, a Toronto native, pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment yesterday in Brighton District Court. Judge David T. Donnelly set bail at $25,000 or surrender of Trivino’s Canadian passport and ordered Trivino to leave his BU dormitory room by 3 p.m. yesterday. Donnelly ordered a “status check” of the case on January 18.

.....

Head hockey coach Jack Parker says Trivino has been permanently removed from the team. “He is no longer associated with the BU hockey team,” says Parker (SMG’68, Hon.’97).

Freaking idiot. I remember really liking this kid during his draft year.

Winnipeg claims Miettinen off waivers a day after he signs 2yr/$3m deal with Tampa.

AM:

Imagine signing a deal with Tampa, mentally preparing for that climate, and then being claimed by Winnipeg.

I saw him in Springfield last year and he was terrible. Tried to do too much himself, blind behind the back passes, poor work ethic. He had one decent play where he tried to take on 4 defenders by himself. He managed to get through them all and then lost the puck before he could shoot.

The irony is that he'll still be in the SE division for the rest of the year...

Not going to lie, I'm incredibly jealous of Winnipeg's home crowd. I get that a lot of it is a catharsis of sorts from losing their team and getting them back, but damn they're loud and into every shift. They come out of their seats for even average scoring chances. I have to watch more games in Winnipeg. This is incredible.

I really think that rule is complete rubbish.

It shouldn't matter the season started.
It's still a FA signing.

Weak.

Feel sorry for Miettinen and Tampa.

Every game there is incredibly exciting, if only because of the fans. They treat every single game like it's a playoff game. I wonder what it's like for those guys going from Atlanta, playing in empty arenas, to the fans they have now.

Probably great. That crowd is a big reason they're 10-4-0 in that arena. One of the best things about watching a hockey game is when you can see the home team feeding off the crowd's energy and willing them to perform.

I think the travel ultimately catches up with them later in the season, but their home games are definitely on my must-watch list right now. It felt like the 3rd period of an important playoff game last night with 12 minutes left in the 2nd period of a midseason home game in December.

Have to assume that was Yzerman's attempt to make the contract unpalatable on waivers. Seems the 'Peg don't mind though...
