NK ice is ready. Haven't gone down yet. This weekend I will. Haven't been on skates for two years.... This is gonna hurt.

It is still my favourite. Best ice in town! and the wall of fame is pretty cool too.

lol, yeah. I haven't skated in 7 years. But I bought new skates and had them heat molded so it shouldn't be too painful.

And Holden, I might take you up on that offer.

hey, sorry if this has been asked/answered already, but are there any good rinks in Charleswood? this is my first winter in the area, and I'm not really sure where to go for some good ice. also, any rinks that tend to be less busy than others?
thanks!

Thanks for this thread. Brought back memories from 45-55+ years ago. Good to see so many old outdoor rinks I played at still operating.

Silver Heights-home club from age 6-11.

Bourkeville(vale?)- led by Rashuk? and Sandell they used to slaughter my peewee/bantam teams.

Sturgeon Creek-home club as a bantam and midget.

Woodhaven-ah... a team we could beat.

Tuxedo- played shinny there on Sunday nights during university. Back then it was by far the best ice in the city. We used to do a deal with the someone to keep the lights on.

etc. etc. etc.

Virtually no indoor ice in Winnipeg back then. No AA or AAA hockey. Everybody played house or for their community club team. Have fun if you manage to get together.

Melrose is where I grew up playing, Right next to the YMCA on Kimberly in EK. Ice is always good and pick up games on at least 1 or 2 of 3 rinks. Very large pleasure rink for the newbies also. Good times good people.

I'll need to go for a little walk to R.A. Steen tonight, see if they've got some ice. Back in the day, they were usually pretty good about flooding as early as possible. Jeez, it's been way too long since I've skated there. Used to be my home away from home.

Anyone checked out Isaac Brock? I remember they used to have great ice there.

Went out to Earl Grey and shot some pucks around for an hour and a half. Sometimes it's a bonus to be unemployed at this moment because there was nobody there.

But damn I'm out of shape, I need to go out more and fix that haha. I thought my hip problems would stop me from skating a lot, but it wasn't that bad. Feels better on the ice than when I'm walking around. It's sore as hell now, but that doesn't matter.

I heard about that... that would have been awesome as a kid to run into that.

As others have said, Varsity View and Roblin Park are both nice. They have change rooms between the rinks.

But they both get used Mon-Thurs for kids' practices. Every team gets an assigned ice time starting in January, e.g. Monday at 7:00 to 8:00. Roblin has a 3rd rink and a trail through the baseball diamonds. Their canteen is also usually open on Saturday/Sunday. Roblin has Jackrabbits for kids K-3 Saturday afternoons.

Be aware that by rules kids' leagues (other than Jackrabbits) must cancel practice if it is colder than -25c with windchill. So if it is that cold there will be ice available.

burmistrov and his dad were out playing shinny with a bunch of kids at river heights community centre on the weekend...on the outdoor ice.

nice to see him embracing the weather.....

edit...oops sorry, didnt see that it was already reported.....he apparently dropped a bunch of pucks and was crossbarring them one after another.

Was/Is his dad not a coach?
I thought I read somewhere that he was Burmi's coach at some point in Mudder Rucha.
