Bolland is supposed to be an elite third line center. Saying the line is playing poorly with Marty Reasoner centering it would be reason to question his help.

Bolland is capable of carrying a third line. He hasn't for some time.

I disagree. When the line is devoid of any type of talent except himself that is a lot to ask of a player. Only a few players in the league are able to carry a third line by themselves. I don't think Bolland is one of them, and if he is going to perform up to his potential he is going to need a little more help than has been provided to him this season.

At his best he was playing with some great players: Ladd, Havlat, Versteeg, et al. This season he has been playing with Bickell, Frolik, and Smith. The disparity in talent is clear; coupled with the injury to his foot it has adversely affected his play this season.

Then why was that line so dominant to start the year? It certainly wasn't Frolik or Bickell.

Bolland was great last year playing with Bickell and Pisani for long stretches. Frolik is without question an improvement on Pisani. The problem is Bolland just doesn't look healthy. It doesn't help that Frolik and especially Bickell aren't playing anywhere close to as well as they did for stretches last year or in the playoffs.

Bolland has been playing injured most of the year. I thought we all knew this...?

Well I did say his recent struggles were partially due to his injured foot. At the beginning of the year he was playing well, he was healthy. Also Frolik and Bickell were not playing like dead weight. Their play has regressed as well. Bolland is certainly capable of playing like a top-flight 3rd line center, but I think it is more for spurts and not on a consistent basis.
