I just can't forgive Simmonds for this one. He got cocky and tried to jump 4 feet in the air even though he was literally gliding and had time to stop or turn.

Sigh. Well, I never really doubted it was a concussion--but at least they got it diagnosed before they put him back on the ice.

Someone a few pages back mentioned that they thought Giroux had sustained a concussion a few years ago--can anyone confirm or rebut that?

Now the waiting starts...

simmonds is a ****. i don't care if it were an accident. it was careless and could have lost us our superstar for the forseeable future and greatly slashes our chances of competing for a playoff run.

I hope you two forgot the sarcastic emotion--because that's patently absurd.

I'm glad the girl on twitter got the thumbs up that Giroux was feeling fine.

yes, he suffered a concussion as a result of a elbow to the head from corey perry, for which he was suspended.

Yeah, Giroux doing an absolutely idiotic maneuver throwing himself into oncoming traffic had nothing to do with it.

Damnit!! This is bad... so that brings Giroux's official NHL concussion count to 2 now? Not good, does anyone know if he had any in juniors? Just hope he comes back and is the same player and is able to avoid concussions the rest of his career.

simmonds had enough room to make the choice to jump over giroux. he could have came to a stop or turned. there's no reason to attempt to hurdle a player on his hands and knees.

Would you have preferred he stayed on his skates and plowed into Giroux with his feet on the ground?

Simmonds was backing checking hard (like he's supposed to) and for some inexplicable reason Giroux threw himself into a vulnerable position in center ice with traffic come at him at full speed. Definition of a good way to get yourself hurt.

I will say this, calling it out indefinitely has negative connotations, but could also mean just a few games. They just don't know. His concussion in 09 he was out indefinitely, and missed 5 games.

He was caught flat-footed and just reacted by diving and trying to poke the puck away... no one's at fault here, it was just a freak accident.

I don't know how to imbed video links, but here's the clip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3AjW0Vc_AA

Roo suddenly stops and dives back in an effort to get the puck. He goes to the ice when Simmonds is maybe three feet away. There was nothing either one of them could do.

That's the nature of these injuries. The symptoms aren't always known in the immediate moments after impact. It's why I said the other night that it doesn't matter how Giroux is feeling now (then), it'll be 24-to-48 hours+ that holds the key.

Simmonds did not have time to stop. What Giroux did was retarded.

Bad news, but I think he only missed a few games after the Perry elbow. Let's hope he isn't out long.

Why so I get the ominous feeling he's going to be out more than a month? I'm fearing the worst. Argh, kill me.

1. Things are different now--
2. This is at least #2.
3. Hopefully Schenn will be back soonish--at that point, we roll some combination of Briere, Schenn, Couturier, and Talbot down the middle. It's not ideal, but it will give the young guys a chance to stop up.
