The Canes are playing in Calgary. Eric Staal was asked about Marc by the same reporter who wrote an article on the Staals in October

Quote:
Hes been skating five, six times now, Eric said. Hes making progress.

Tortorella also announced that injured defenseman Marc Staal, who has been out since training camp with post-concussion symptoms, will be making the trip to Buffalo for Saturday's game. Staal has been skating lightly, but the Rangers have not given a timetable or target date for his return.
Still traveling with the team, good news.

Its been one month since Staal was cleared by Dr. Cantu for light workouts. One month today to be exact.

good news, probably still a ways away from playing, but it means he's making progress

If Staal can come back and give us 20-30 good games at the end of the season into the playoffs, I will be elated. We are doing well defensively without him, so getting him back for the stretch run would be almost like a deadline trade.

The Rangers have 35 games remaining after the all star break which is still 6 weeks away.

Still no timetable for Marc Staal. But calls skating with teammates a milestone and "the next step."

It looks like he is perfectly on schedule. One month shut down, one month light workouts, hopefully now will be a month or less of no contact and contact training combined.

I am still hopeful that he will be back before the All Star break. I am fairly certain he will play no later than the first game after the All Star break, unless something goes wrong. I can't imagine they would allow him to workout snd play without the symptoms being gone in recent weeks.

Any news is good news.

Not really concerned though. I like Staal's game, just don't have the mancrush on him as some here do. I think it's been made clear by this teams play just how interchangeable players are at this level. Will it help the Rangers when he does return? of course it does..Does it make the Rangers better? That's debateable. His eventual return will indeed help give some guys some rest during the latter stages of the season however by reducing TOI.... It will be a good day seeing Staal and Girardi on the ice together again..

The question of whether Staal's return makes the Rangers better is debatable? Wow how quickly some forget.

When they think he's good and ready I'd assume they'll let him take some light contact in practice/scrimmage, see how that goes, then put him in the line up.

But, I'm probably way ahead of myself.

Marc Staal still is the best Defenseman this team has. Anyone forgetting that has probably had a lobotomy.

Good news indeed.

I think at this point the timetable is maybe (FINGERS & TOES CROSSED) after All-Star break?

Yeah, he may not be a hall of famer, but he's the best we got. Adding our #1 dman back into the lineup will be huge.

Indeed. This team wouldn't be able to win the Cup without him.

If you don't think adding marc staal back to the lineup will GREATLY help our defense, then YOU'RE the one with a concussion.

Wow, like I said...His return will do nothing but help...But taking into account the impact he's going have on this team according to my fellow posters, I assume when he returns we're going to shut everyone out and never lose again. In that case, sign me up for the Staal fanboy monthly newsletter and free tee-shirt...

People continue to fail to realize that in sports, it's never 1+1=2.

Just because Staal is the best we have doesn't mean the Rangers are the best team with him. There are a million variables as to what makes a team good.

Where are you getting this stuff? Everyone is simply saying we're better with him than without him.

Look at our defense as it stands right now and try to convince us we're not a better team with him. I dare you.

We can be better. This teams defense will be better with Marc Staal. There is no question about that. He is an essential part of this teams success. The rangers will go absolutely nowhere in the playoffs without a player of Staal's capacity.

If you fail to see that, then it's quite clear you have brain damage.

The extreme shortsightedness on this board sometimes is blinding.
