There is NO reason to blame Simmonds in this situation. From seeing it live & then seeing the replay I still don't see how Simmonds could have avoided it.

Let's just hope Giroux misses a few games, and not 40+.

So we lose 3 people indefinitely to concussion....our best D man, the best player in the league and a future prospect. Somebody is bad kharma on this team and they need to ID this person and sacrifice him to the hockey god's. Yes Shelley you are prime suspect number 1!

I can't wait to see how Shelley's awesome locker room presence gets us over the hump of this latest devastating setback!

**** everything about concussions. If this didn't happen, I have no doubt that Giroux would have walked away with some hardware. Something needs to change, star players everywhere keep getting sidelined with concussions for substantial periods of time. Who knows what though... Hoping the science catches up to the problem sooner rather than later.

Wouldn't hold your breath... it's more voodoo than science right now.

I know there was nothing he could do, but I really don't like Wayne Simmonds right now.

2 (well, maybe 2) concussions with Giroux's play style concerns the hell out of me. He isn't exactly cautious.

This is the worst news ever. I can't believe it. I feel sick to my stomach. After reading articles on concussions and how they can re-occur so easily, there is nothing positive about this. This is horrible.

Wow, this really sucks bad!!! I think everyone's first reaction is to blame someone but it was a complete accident, nothing more.

The next reaction is to be pissed that he will probably be out of the MVP running which is understandable since this kind of crap always seams to happen to us Philly fans.

But the main thing is that G gets better and is able to return for many, many years of what he has been doing lately in the NHL.

I really hope he is going to be fine.

GET WELL SOON G-MAN!!!!!

I still have trouble finding words from my "minor concussion" a few years ago. Concussions suck!

There is some reason to be optimistic. The Flyers did the right thing here, for, like, the first time ever.

Giroux hasn't skated since the hit. In the past, they would have let him try to go out there again for the third period and made everything worse.

Also, I address this from time to time, but it always seems to need repeating. The flyers medical team consists of the best specialists in the area. The flyers don't hire doctors specifically for the team. They use the top docs at U of Penn, etc.

People used to complain about Bartolozzi & co. back during the Lindros debacle as if he was some quack the Flyers hired out of some random med school in Grenada, never mind the man was the top orthopedic surgeon in the area and had his name slapped onto the oldest hospital in the country.

The Flyers current team physicians are Gary Dorshimer & Tom Graham, these aren't some nobodies but two very highly ranked doctors.

The problem is not with a crack-pot medical team. The problem is the historical practice of doctors clearing pro athletes to play with significant injuries. There's no pressure on a doctor to keep me out of work for a week if I suffer an injury. There's immense amounts of pressure on a doctor to let the pro athlete play with that very same injury.

Wow some of the stories on these boards about concussions are tough. I got hit in the head with a baseball bat when my friend let it go on the follow through. Doctor said I got a "grade 3" concussion along with 23 stitches. I was out literally two weeks and was playing basketball and street hockey again. Never had another problem with my head again. I must be the most god damn luckiest ******* alive or have a really thick head (or both)! Sad to see what everyone goes through with these injuries.

Is it better to get into a fender bender or risk knocking a kid off of his bike with your car?

Well, that's enough from me. ****.

Actually, they do hire doctors. Now, when they go visit specialists they aren't necessarily "hired" by the Flyers. But they do have staff medical personnel. This became an issue in recent years as high insurance premiums in PA forced one of their doctors to cease doing the job because he didn't want to pay to work in Philly.

So I wonder how many returns the NHL Shop will be getting. I wonder what player they will order instead.

To me, this is where it stands: they're freaked out because it involved his head, and are going to test him like crazy just in case they missed something, because a second hit could trigger a huge problem (see: Simon Gagne). As of now they're being careful not to ignore it and just let him out there to hurt himself again, so they're playing it super cautious. My money's on a neck injury. Chill the hell out, if he misses 3 months, then we know we were lied to again. But my guess is they're nervous as hell and want 100% proof it's not a concussion.
Chalk it up as another lie.

Your analogy is great...except for one problem...it isn't accurate.

You know when someone slams on the breaks in front of you but you have no choice but to hit them even with you slamming on the breaks as well? Yeah, that's what happened here.
