Broad Street Bull on Twitter says he doesn't think Giroux will play in WC.

Mod edit (to include quote by Sam @ the Inquirer):

Quote:
Any estimate on how long Giroux will be out is just a guess. The Winter Classic is 20 days away, and my guess is he won't play.

Pretty sure Giroux wears the older Bauer style helmets...4500 I think...could be wrong.

Not saying the updated models would have prevented this but just throwing that fact out there...

Pens fan coming in peace. I just saw the hit and it looked worse then I expected. Best of luck to the best player in the world's recovery!

Yeah, that's what I said. The second car would slam on his brakes, but not avoid the car entirely.

Whatever, though, I'm a mess right now. My fantasy teams are down the tubes, my first chance to see a Hart/Art Ross winner on the Flyers is basically gone, 24/7 won't be nearly as good as it could have been, and we're missing our best defenseman and forward for a lengthy period of time most likely.

The doctors they "hire" are prominent guys that are affiliated with local hospitals, etc.

Gary Dorshimer is a prominent guy, he's not just the Flyers doctor. He works out of Pennsylvania Hospital and teaches at Penn. He's made the Philly Magazine top docs list a bunch of times.

The guy that ceased doing the job was a prominent guy as well. I think he was also with Penn, if memory serves.

The medical staff is comprised of top doctors, believe it or not. It always has been. They aren't the problem. Well, at least not in the sense people think of (i.e. a bunch of nameless quacks.)

Hockey probably won't exist in 30 years, and I imagine football won't either. At some point, they're going to start prohibiting kids from playing because of the increased potential for brain injury.

So he went from 'feeling better...' to 'gradually worse...' within 24 hours?

I'm sad, especially since I just ordered my WC jersey. This is so depressing it's not even funny.

Yea they have a bunch of different guys from around the region that do things for them. They're not employed solely by the team, as they primarily work in their own practices. My fiance works for one of their surgeons who is a doctor for Virtua.

For the NHL to not exist in 30 years, that would mean that parents would have to stop letting their kids play hockey in the next 5-10 years. Now ask yourself, do you really see that happening?

Also, I address this from time to time, but it always seems to need repeating. The flyers medical team consists of the best specialists in the area. The flyers don't hire doctors specifically for the team. They use the top docs at U of Penn, etc.

what are you arguing again? The technicality he pointed out is the one you also point out.

They were being as non-committal as possible until they were sure.

Nah, it's another guy, just can't remember his name.

But Bartolozzi is an example of what I'm talking about. He's the pre-eminent orthopedic surgeon in the region. He routinely makes best doctors in the country lists but people thought he was some under-qualified hack.

If concussion-mania keeps up, it will happen eventually. One bad human interest story on 20/20 of kids and concussions would get the ball rolling.

The most insulting aspect of all of this is even if the NHL instituted "touch" hockey it wouldn't have precluded what happened to Giroux which was a freak accident..which is why they call them accidents.

Having said this..accidents happen due to recklessness but it's a quick moving game and stuff happens. You can't really blame G or Simmonds for going all out as they were doing...still devastating!
