I'm pretty sure that's already happened. I forget what sport it was but a couple kids died from second impact syndrome. It's when you get two concussions in a short period of time. Kids are more susceptible to it, but you can see the effects of having two consecutive concussions in Crosby and others.

Blaming Simmonds is absolutely moronic. If we can take anything positive out of this, it's exciting for Couturier to get in there and play some big minutes for this team with some talent around him. Hopefully Giroux recovers quickly and he's back within a couple weeks.

Just stopping by to offer condolences about Giroux and Pronger (and Schenn). Concussions suck and it seems as though if you play hockey in the state of Pennsylvania you are effed! Good luck and I hope for a speedy recovery. Pens/Flyers games just aren't the same without all of these guys.

I must be the most god damn luckiest ******* alive or have a really thick head (or both)! Sad to see what everyone goes through with these injuries.
The problem is when you play a contact sport for so long, you might get your "bell rung" and just shake it off, not think about it. I probably had several minor concussions over the last 15 years playing goal and not known it. The last one, I knew it, and had PCS for 3 months and nothing showed up on MRI. Nobody really knows with concussions. Especially the cumulative effects of them. Giroux had one previously from a corey perry elbow and was out only 10 days or so. Even if the league made concussions like a mandatory 20 days on LTIR, it may not be enough. Look how careful they were with crosby, and he still had another one.

I also have a shorter temper now, so if prongs gets back, maybe he'll be angry prongs all the time.

I actually saw something on soccer that said the cumulative effects of heading the ball over a long period of time could have the same effect on your brain as multiple concussions.

Hockey will still exist in 30 years but it will have turned into a no contact, soccer like, hockey lite version of the game

On the bright side, Couturier might start dominating on that top line.

What can you do?

The team physician ofted cited during some of Lindros' issues was Jeffrey Hartzell but I'm not sure if you are thinking of something more current than that time frame.

This is the worst feeling ever.

I remember somebody saying "Without Pronger the Flyers are just 'Giroux and the boys'
So I guess now we're just "The Boys"

Anyways, I don't think it's the end of the world; without Giroux we're going to lose A LOT of offense and I think that's where our depth has to step in.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for players like JVR and Briere; now they're not allowed to float and expect Giroux to pick up the slack.

- Hartnell's been playing well, but will his production drop without a #1 Center?
- Will Couturier play on the top line? And if he does will he succeed?
- Teams playing against us are going to have it a lot easier because they don't have to focus on Giroux.
- But most importantly will Jody Shelly (superstar!) finally get the ice time he deserves

“You look at the best teams over the years, most of them have had to deal with injuries and it’s how you react to them,” Danny Briere told me.

“That’s what says a lot about your team. You don’t see teams rely on one or two guys these days to dominate. You can have 2-3 superstars on a team but it’s your depth players that make a difference.”

Ugh. This is not good.

But! I am pleased that they sat him immediately and only waited three days to be honest about the situation. Shows that the team is starting to inch towards being slightly responsible. It's a good development for the sport in the long run.

Well, our annual December slump is right on time. Isn't that special.

At least this means more minutes and more opportunity for Couturier..I Guess that's the silver lining? ****.

This is ******** news. Giroux doesn't deserve this!

But I personally believe in Couturier. Poor kid was placed on the 4th line - not like you have a chance to dominate there.
