Does anyone know of a site

that explains the salary cap and the penalties that will happen to a team if they go over it?

I don't think you can go over it...

I may be mistaken, but I think you can at no point during the season be in a situation that if maintained until the end of the season would lead to you busting the cap...

You can't for example start the season with a salary mass over the cap.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think NJ was the only team that was over the cap before the season and they needed to get it down before the season start

so I think jester099 is right

the only way to go over is when an injured player return and the team must come into immediate compliance with the requirements of the payroll range.

I think in the NFL it's what is called a "Soft" cap, which means you can go over it, but you pay a penalty.

in the NHL, it's a "hard" cap, which means you're just not allowed.
