No, he missed that one as well. He suffered an "upper body injury" in a game against Bridgeport 11/20, and the timeline was set to two-to-three weeks. That's the last I've heard about it.

Bartulis' injury I haven't heard anything about.
I stand corrected. For some reason I thought I had seen him in one of the pictures from the game set but I see now where he, Bart, Rowe and Bascishsusushahshsutys were scratches.
what's the deal with Backlund? I assume he's basically a non-entity in this organization now
Pretty much. Leighton has been in goal the past 8 games or so I think. Bacashihua has been the backup most of the times. Backlund had a game in the ECHL a while back, to not rust up completely.
I think they had some hopes that he'd find a solution in Europe, but so far nothing appears to be going on there.
Decided to check up on the up and coming draft abit (since we might have two second round picks).
Seems like Olli Maatta quite a bit. Alot of people have him going in the 2nd round. Still hear positive things about it. Do question why he is dropping though.
Es ist Deutschland. What other drafted prospects are they going to play?
I'm pretty sure that was expected.
Think they have 6 drafted players in this age.
Konrad Abeltshauser San Jose Sharks
Tobias Rieder Edmonton Oilers
Tom Kühnhackl Pittsburgh Penguins
Marcel Nöbels Philadelphia Flyers
Mirko Höfflin Chicago Blackhawks
David Elsner Nashville Predators

My point was not that there were none but instead that there weren't nearly enough to push him off the team.

Apparently he isn't spectacular in any area of play and that is why. He's average-above average in all areas of the game. Low risk-low reward type of player. Read he's good at moving the puck and has some offensive tools. Conservative doesn't take many chances. Skating is decent but could be better. That said I would love him in orange and black. Gotta love those Finnish guys right?
I'd have no problems if the Flyers spent a 2nd or 3rd on Hyka. Dynamic hockey player. He'd fit in quite well on a line with either Couturier or Giroux.
The Phantoms got off to a great start against Baby Sens, with Holmstrom scoring only three minutes into the game. After that though, the scoring troubles they've had lately continued and they lost the game 1-3. Leighton in net again, saving 27 shots. Lilja played for the Phantoms and was -1. Wellwood and Bartulis are still out injured.
The Phantoms held on to a 4-3 win, after being up 3-0 and 4-1, against Syracuse. Ben Holmstrom had a Gordie Howe hattrick, scoring his goal on a penalty shot rewarded while short handed. He fought Pat Maroon, who had assists on two of JF Jacques' three goals for Syracuse. The other Phantoms goals were scored by Klotz, Rowe and Hamel (who is now 12th on the all time AHL scoring list with 326 goals). MFL was rested after having started nine consecutive games. Bacashihua in net saved 39 shots.
Congratulations to Flyers' prospect Marcel Noebels, whose German team earned a promotion back to the elite World Junior Championships after going undefeated at the 2012 Division 1 WJC.
Noebels ranked third in tournament scoring with 9 points (4 G, 5A) in five games.
I usually put up better gdt's but I'm just kinda lazy lately.
Unfortunately the Phantoms didn't have their best game in this one. They were really struggling getting their pp to work, going 0 for 6. Akeson didn't impress at all.
Leighton made some great saves, but he also gave away a goal to make it 0-2. Final score was 4-1 to the baby Sens with the final goal an empty netter. Testwuide with the goal for the Phantoms. McGinn had a pretty decent fight. Him and Kalinski were probably the best Phantoms imo. Kalinski can't finish to save his life however.

Yes, the Phantoms are struggling to get their power play to work. On Sunday they were 0 for 6 on the pp. They are 4 for 36 in December, and 18% for the season, and unfortunately that number is sliding.
Akeson is doing a good job as a rookie, 2nd on the team in scoring.

You watch quite a bit of Olympiques games, right (I remember you were big on Giroux from the moment we drafted him)? What can you tell me about Alexandros Soumakis? He caught my eye when I was going through the Gatineau roster because he's 5-6 (!) and nearly 200 pounds (!!). Then I watched some of his highlights and fell in love. The kid's like a human bowling ball out on the ice. Hits everything that moves, goes after bigger players, gritty, blocks shots... and he has offensive skill, to boot. A writer who scouts the Ottawa/Gatineau area told me he's a big fan and that Soumakis is a very unique player with an endearing game. But he also cautioned that Soumakis's stature and style makes him more susceptible to injury.
Still, I can't help but have a soft spot for a player that size who weighs in at nearly 200 pounds. Soumakis is built like a running back! And at age 17, no less. Interesting prospect who I'll for sure be keeping an eye on. Just wanted to get the opinion of someone who watches him regularly.
