Man, I didn't think things could get much worse for us. I hope Skinner takes his time to get 100% well. No need to come back this season half-assed when chances are we won't be seeing anything resembling post-season play....again. Damn.
Is this the worse year for the franchise, even when in Hartford? I can't remember any year being this bad when in Raleigh.

02-03 we lost Brind'Amour and Weekes long term, so yes. But this is right on par in terms of how damn bad it can get, and I'd argue that 02-03 still had a better top 6 up front.
Shut down Skinner for the season. I know he will want to play when he gets healthy, but there is nothing to be gained at this point. I don't want what's happening to Crosby to happen to him.

I know this is the knee-jerk reaction when guys get hurt in a season like this, but sitting out when you're healthy isn't all that great for a hockey player, either.
He should be healthy, fit and mentally prepared before he comes back, but once he gets to that point, there's no benefit to taking any *more* time off, and there is a point where it hurts him to just be sitting around. I think in times like these we just have to trust the player and the doctors to do the right thing, and sit back and enjoy the freakshow that is the 2010-11 Hurricanes.

That's the problem with concussions, though. Using Crosby as an example, everyone in Pittsburgh kept saying that he wouldn't return until he was good as new. He was 100% cleared to play by both his doctors and himself a few weeks ago. Now who knows what will happen with him?
I don't know. There's just no right answers with this disaster of a season. I just want to be able to salvage something from the flaming wreckage when all is said and done.

Crosby's mistake was continuing to play after the Winter Classic. Hopefully the Canes shut Skinner down for as long as it takes to ensure that the next little bump doesn't become a major concussion the way the Hedman hit did to Crosby. After that pattern was established, even sitting out most of a year didn't keep a pretty innocuous little collision from putting him back on the sidelines.
Pretty much the same thing happened with Lindros. He would get concussed, take 2 games off and get concussed again. By the time he started getting shut down for longer periods, his brain was too far gone to recover.
I was an Oilers fan before the Jets returned and I endured 3 years of ridiculous injuries and bottom 5 finishes. I'm not saying that's where you guys will end up but I know how long and painful the season can be when you are in that scenario, and how helpless you feel when player after player goes down to injury.
I just hope Joni and Skinner fully recover. Head injuries are garbage.

Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the kind words Jet Moderator. Long and painful pretty much sums up our season thus far indeed. Merry Christmas
