Four LA Kings prospects make preliminary WJC rosters

Wow, no Mersch? What a shame.

Happy to see Gravel make it. I've always liked his game. Hopefully he makes the team, even if it's as a 7th D.

Can anyone tell me why Mersch's name is not listed on lakings.com website as a prospect or even listed on HF; he's been unlisted for awhile now and I'm not sure why.

Probably just an oversight. Mersch does have a page however: http://kings.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8476352

Would have liked to see more names make the preliminary rosters, but four is still solid. Hopefully we add a few more players next year. It was nice having several Kings prospects to watch.

I'll be surprised to some degree if Gravel makes it. I'm not sure who Gibson has to compete with either.

Toffoli and Forbort have to make it, or it'd be considered a disappointment I'd have to think.

The only other two that are able to make it would've been Shore and Mersch, and I was kind of surprised Shore didn't make it.

This appears to only be the U.S. and Finland rosters though so there are still Russia and Sweden to release their rosters and I'd think Shumacher at least gets an invite to the camp for Sweden, and I'm still unclear if Kitsyn is able to play this year or not. Gibson should end up the starter for Finland as I can't really think of anyone that poses a huge threat to him not making the team.

Awesome the Kings are pretty much unwatchable at this point, and now I have one less reason to try and watch the WJC this year... When does baseball season start?

Did USA set their roster yet? Any news on Forbort and Gravel making the team officially?

Kitsyn is not eligible this year; he's too old.

Well, that makes my decision simple. USA! USA! USA!

Forbort is almost surely a lock to make the team.

I think the same was said of Toffoli.

Toffoli was never gonna beat out Stone and Connolly. He's no good in a bottom six role. I suppose he could have been considered for the 13th forward, but HC apparently didn't think so. Realistically, even with his two goals last night, he would have needed to pot a few goals every game to have a chance at making it. I wouldn't worry too much. Yeah, his skating leaves a lot to be desired, that's something that's sorta necessary for the WJC. On the bright side, he should take over the OHL scoring lead, I guess.

While Toffoli was far from a lock, I am kinda surprised he did not make the team. It looks like Pearson might have stolen his spot.

He seems like one of those guys that just scores goals in pre-season but due to his bad skating or whatever they always think he will never keep going in regular season. However, whenever he gets a chance he just keeps scoring goals. Just needs that chance.

I agree he wouldn't oust Connolly, but Stone? Stone's not a bad pick by any stretch, but don't make it sound like he had no chance to best Stone.

This.

Team Canada is going to be looking for a proven game breaking sniper again and wind up short. Toffi is exceptional and I get a good laugh at those of us who rarely if ever see him saying anything contrary about the kid or how his skating might be suspect.

His skating is fine and getting better as time goes on. The same bagging has happened for several great players over the years (Luc rings a bell).

I know allot of us are high on Shore and he might develop into a good bottom 6 forward but watch the kid. He is easy to find on the web. I like him allot and am going to watch him in a couple of weeks again in person but he has a long ways to go. Good prospect but not anything all too special just yet. Jared Aulin style.

TT's chances were shot the minute TB released Connolly.

Chris Gibson will be fighting for the starting goalie spot with Avalanche prospect Sami Aittokallio.

Not really lol, there was far better RWs on the team, and Toffoli is not necessarily a bottom 6 guy, like a Smith-Pelley.

Smith-Pelley, Connolly were locks. Stone, Gallagher were competing for the spot with Toffoli

I still think that Derek Forbort was a mistake, no offense to whoever likes the kid. Our biggest problem at the time, and still is a very big problem, is scoring, Lombardi knew that. I don't know why he wouldn't go for a forward, especially after he already had such a deep pool of defensive prospects, Hickey, Teubert, Voynov, Martinez, Muzzin, Campbell. It just didn't make sense, Emerson Etem was who everyone wanted, a guy like Tarasenko was still on board. That first round pick was such a disappointment and I wouldn't even be surprised if Forbort never pans out, honestly. At least he made up for it by taking Toffoli in the next round, but still
