Hey Flyers fans. Sorry to hear about Pronger (just noticed the alert that he was out for the season). I knew was out but I didn't see what happened. Was it a blind side hit?

Anyway, Terrible news and I hope he's ok. He's a great defenseman.

I half expected this. That being said, i wouldnt count Pronger out yet. They made the "entire season" announcement just to avoid any distraction hanging over the team.

I'm sorry but I don't buy it. There is no way they could determine it this early. My guess is there's an equal chance he comes back this year as there is he doesn't.

I just think that since this condition is so uncertain, there's no way they can project all the way to June if they can't predict a week ahead of time sometimes.
Lappy took a whole off-season off following returning to the playoffs last season, and in the first pre-season game it came back to him. He also claimed that he tried to convince himself as well, and hasn't really tried to come back since. And keep in mind that stemmed from an eye injury as well. They're just taking the potential Lindros-2000 scenario off the table.

I see it as the Flyers were unlikely to win the Cup this year anyways (felt that before the season). I do think they're set up reasonably to make moves for a good run next year, even if Pronger ends up taking an entire year off (meaning a return no earlier than December 15, 2012). I just don't want them going crazy at the deadline because they feel they need to uphold their image of 'we do what we have to do every year.'

The league is too good and too equal to lose a Pronger, possibly Giroux for an extended period, and have reasonable expectations of winning a Stanley Cup. The reality of the situation is that they made a lot of changes, and then got dealt a bad hand (which frankly we were due for).

Jets/Habs fan here. I feel terrible for you guys and for the guys you've lost in the last little while. I hope Giroux and Pronger both heal fully.

I understand the severity of his illness, I just don't think anyway can say with 100% certainty. I don't think they know enough about concussions. If his tibia split in half, sure, we know how long it takes. But I think saying he's missing the year is the same as saying a month or 5 years: no one knows. They probably just did it so they could stop talking about it until something changes.

Isn't there no cap during the playoffs? Just as a hypothetical, could they pick up someone with a fairly high cap hit using the exception, and then Pronger could come back during the playoffs? Or am I way off base?

Just like what you said with Giroux right

Usually when the GMs say he is out for the rest of the season, examples in the past have shown that 90% of the players are ussually out.

Tough break, but the reality is that he was going to lose the edge long before his contract ended anyway.

Hello, LTIR.

I just hope Roo recovers swiftly. He should have a long and productive career in front of him.

I stand by what I said and admitted to being wrong. I still don't think it was severe.

Anywho, you're missing my point. I don't think at this point anyone can actually KNOW. He could be done for his career, or he could be back in 2 months. No one understand concussions so no one can say to a certainty.

I'd rather they sign Bryan McCabe at a pro-rated salary and peddle to those who don't pay attention to the team on a day-to-day basis that it was the best they could do. They wouldn't know the difference.

Well with the cap room maybe this means we can go after Weber or Suter or both.

You're right, they don't know.

That's why they're shutting him down.

Um, how big of a cap hit do you think he has?

And you arent getting both

And even if you did, the roster would be decimated

The fact that they used the word "Severe" is what bothers me the most.

They can't know when you will stop having PCS, but they can now how long it will take the actual concussion (i.e. bruise on the brain) will take to heal. If that is close to March or April, then there is probably a very low chance he can come back.
