I say give it to Kimmo as a temp until pronger comes back next season.

No. They'll keep Pronger "captain" and roll with 3 A's

I think they'll just play without one the rest of the year and if Pronger's career is basically done, they'll name a new one in the offseason.

Same thing they did with Primeau when he was out with a concussion.

Yea, either way is fine. Maybe I put too much emphasis to having someone out there with the C.

i think that would be a little disrespectful to strip him of the c because of injury issues.

I don't think it is, you just tell him it is temporary until he comes back. But, they will probably do what was suggested above and go with 3 As.

This wouldn't be the first time for Pronger, as he missed most of the 2002-2003 season with the Blues (played only the last 5 games+playoffs) and the C was temporarily given to MacInnis while he was out, he got it back again at the offseason but only to give it up once again to focus on being healthy.

I'm sure he would understand and I wouldn't mind seeing Timonen as a C again.

I have a sneaky feeling that prongs will return for the play-offs. He's ruled himself out so that he doesn't become a distraction to the team with the whole will he, wont he crap.

from my understanding of the situation he has no say in the matter. we are talking about severe post-concussion syndrome here if this doesn't end his career we'll be lucky i think. no way i can see him returning for the playoffs.

anyway, C to kimmo or the 3 As

And I have a sneaking suspicion that he'll never play again... but it's just as speculative.

In reality, if the Flyers make a move to acquire another defenseman, whether of the fill-in variety--Gleason or Beauchemin--or the more spectacular (Suter, etc.), they will need to keep Pronger on LTIR to make room anyway.

next season?

have you not listened to what the team has said? When a 35 + year old gets severe PCS and they already announce that he's done for the rest of the season + playoffs 30 games into the season, that's basically telling you that, baring a miracle, his career is over

Speculation. While I understand what you are saying, until he fails to return next season, I will keep thinking that there is a chance he may return.

C to Kimmo. Pronger Physics's book is closed, for good. Hurts to say but this is a brutal sport and brutal things happen. Time to move on.

I don't think there needs to be.

No one obsesses over what the C means more than the Flyers do. It's an arbitrary thing more than not anymore. One single letter has been a fiasco more than not over the last 10 years. If this team has to have someone wear the C with the number of character players on the team, then no one deserves it.

Well for all the contract cap complainers...there is our LTIR injury exception...if of course he doesn't return.

But the C stays with him for the season. Kimmo has basically been the captain for 4 years now anyway...

Roll with three As. As for those who think he'll come back in the playoffs, go and read the article I just posted in the Pronger thread by Ken Campbell of The Hockey News.

Fans also read way more into it than the players and teams do.

if they really need someone to wear the C in midst of all of this, i think they should ask the players who they think should have it, and have them vote or something. most likely it would end up being kimmo anyway

I agree with this, and it's part of what got Mike Richards 'in trouble,' for lack of a better word. I said it when Jason Smith left, and then I said it when Mike Richards left that I would more prefer to have no one wear it. More so when Smith left.
