Unfortunate, the depth on defence is great though. Could be a great chance for Rundblad to take a larger role.

That's too bad. Kuba was really putting in the effort out there this season and had come a long way from last years poor performance. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Maybe, but Wiercioch brings more of what Kuba does. They might not think he can bring it at the NHL level but who knows.

It will be interesting to see how Carkner fits in when he gets his shot - I our defense is a lot different than last year, much more mobile and the offense is using the points a lot more. I'm not so sure that Carkner will fit in with this system. Plus his fighting has become less valuable since Konopka is around.

I don't see Carkner getting too much icetime except on the PK.

D-men call ups.

1) Borowiecki
2) Gryba
3) Wiercioch
4) Conboy [out hurt knee]
5) Schira

Wiercioch needs another 2 yrs in Binghamton to develop as poster Billy Madison told us.

Some D-men can take 3-4+ yrs to develop takes time............

As far as Wiercioch getting a lot better thus season as jbeck5 says! Well I do NOT share his view on him.....

I don't know if its fair to expect anyone from Bingo to step up to Kuba's role.

But in term of what Kuba brings - I find it a bit surprising looking at the stats that his role is more two-way than anyone else on the team. He's the only guy in the top 4 in all three situations (ES, PP, PK)

PP TOI/G leaders: Karlsson (4:09), Gonchar (4:04), Rundblad (1:43), Kuba (1:11), Lee, Phillips, Cowen all < 0:10.

SH TOI/G leaders: Kuba (3:47), Phillips (3:43), Cowen (3:29), Lee (2:28), Gonchar (1:47) EK (1:02), Rundblad (0:03).

ES TOI/G leaders: Karlsson (20:08), Kuba (17:13), Gonchar (16:15), Phillips (16:05), Rundblad (14:06), Cowen (13:55), Lee (12:05).

Here's hoping Kuba comes back from injury as the Kuba of this year, and not how he returned from injury last year. With it not being lower body related I feel better about it.

To be honest, i don't think anyone will be called up. Carkner comes back and we still have 7 Ds...If another D got injured, we would roll with the 6 D we have...And i highly doubt we have 2 more injuries on the backend in the next month that forces us to call someone up before kuba is healthy.

We had 8 Capable defensemen to start the year. We are going to put them to use.

If Phillips or Cowen go down I'm sure you'd see a callup, can't have a d group of all RD's.

Murray likes Boro for sure, but I would think the callup would depend on who is injured and what type of player is required.

I guess this gives a chance to give Lee Carkner and Rundblad lots of play time

I don't really get the Patty Weircioch hate. I realize he isn't the best defenseman out there, but I still have pretty high hopes for him. He never will be the talent that Karlsson, Cowen, Rundblad are, and I personally never expected him to be. I still see #3 in all situations out of him though.

Don't really see it as hate as much as how impressive Boro's been thus far. His play in Bingo has been better than most expected, KK loves him and management was singing his praise before the season even started. It's not hardly bold to say he's at the top of the depth chart as far as Bingo d-men go.

I think its because we had high expectations for him when he was drafted, he had the offensive tools of a premier puck mover and the body to fill out to be a physical dman. But his 1st pro season sucked hard and had rumors about his work ethic, and this year's dev camp he looked like the exact type of player he was 12 months ago with no improvements in his game.

So far this season in the AHL he has

GP24 G2 A10 P12

Averaging .50pt/game isn't too bad for a 2nd year dman pro in a team full of injuries and new players.

and his stock was just on the verge of getting more valuable to Murray for a trade.

Well this sucks...I'd say he was our best defencemen after Karlsson, Gonchar, Phillips, Rundblad, Lee and Cowen...

Kuba was 2nd in TOI behind Karlsson before going down on that injury. We're 1 in 6 since he's been out.

We're 12 in 24 with him in. As much as we joke around about him, he's a big part of our team.

Time to bring up the Kuba appreciation thread again

In all seriousness, a lot of people wrote him off after last year, glad to see him prove them all wrong. We need him back.

I was expecting him to have a stellar season...it's a contract year. I was just hoping Murray wouldn't go banana's over him again and extend his contract.

Gonchar and Kuba may be ready to play Tuesday. No change on Michalek.
