GDT: Carolina @ Anaheim 12/6/05

@

Tonight Gerber returns to his old stomping grounds to (hopefully) show the Ducks exactly what they are missing. We need a solid performance tonight, TB is right at our heels! From what I have read, Giguere could possibly be back tonight also. Yesterday Vasicek had his knee surgery, so in 3-4 months he should be back....Ladd also had his surgery yesterday and will be out 6-8 weeks. LaRose is up to fill some of the empty spots on the roster. Witney and Tverdovsky could return at any day now, and Wallin is moving towards rejoining the team also.

Stats:

STANDINGS:
Canes- 34 points, 1st place, Southeast Division
Mighty Ducks - 28 points, 4th place, 7 PB, Pacific Division

TEAM LEADERS:
Canes -
Staal, 19 goals, 19 assists and 38 points
Mike Commodore, 53 PIM

Mighty Ducks -
Teemu Selanne, 15 goals and 24 points
Scott Niedermayer, 14 assists
Todd Fedoruk, 53 PIM

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Canes -
Power play: 18.8 percent (32 for 170), 10th in NHL
Penalty killing: 76.8 percent (116 for 151), 29th

Mighty Ducks -
Power play: 16.0 percent (27 for 168), 20th
Penalty killing: 85.1 percent (161 for 189), 6th

GOALTENDERS:
Canes -
Gerber (10-5-1, 2 SO, 2.59 GAA)
Ward (6-3-1,4.05)

Mighty Ducks -
Bryzgalov (6-8-0, 2.39) - how do you pronounce that??
Giguere (6-3-4, 2.49)

INJURIES:
Canes- Tverdovsky (PCS), Whitney (Groin), Wallin (wrist) IR: Vasicek and Ladd.
Mighty Ducks: Our old friend Ozolinsh (knee) is doubtfull for tonights game.

Something cool from the Coyotes game:
Quote:
Carolina goaltenders Martin Gerber and Cam Ward became the first goaltending duo in NHL history to each notch assists in the same game on Dec. 3 at Phoenix. Ward earned the first assist on Staal’s power-play goal in the second period and Gerber earned the second assist on Rod Brind’Amour’s power-play goal in the third frame.
Game is at 10:30, so take a nap, get rested for a game that will end around 1amish. The game is on FSN South and is also in HD (hurray!) and on the radio at 102.9.

LETS GO CANES!

Whitney

Is his groin still a day to day thing weeks later or does he still have weeks left. Any updates? The team is not playing as well without him.

Ducks netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who sat out six games because of a strained hamstring, said he is "100% ready to go," but has gotten no word yet about when that would be. Defenceman Sandis Ozolinsh will not play tonight against the Sharks. He did not practice Monday and will be "reevaluated on a day-to-day basis." - Los Angeles Times

Hurricanes' Oleg Tverdovsky is listed as questionable for tonight's game against the Mighty Ducks. He may be able to return to action this evening after missing the past 10 days due to post-concussion symptoms. Forward Ray Whitney could return tonight after missing a number of weeks with a nagging groin muscle injury. - Raleigh News & Observer

Bryzgalov will probably start tonight, he's been playing pretty much every game lately. Of course theres always the chance Carlyle wants to get J.S back in.

hopefully the canes come out on top of this one, they need to hold off Tampa for that top spot in the division. Sucks about Ladd, I didn't think his knee injury was that bad, ouch. Maybe he'll come home for a week or two and ill see him around town

I never did make my confession as to why we are losing. Its all my fault really.....

I am very superstitious, and during the 9 game winning streak I had flown my car flag for each game (home or away), so I decided every game, I would fly it, just to humor myself.

My Canes car flag met an untimely death when I rolled down my window the morning of the game we do not speak of...and we all know the result of that.

I temporarily had a friends for a couple games, and then he needed it back.

Then we started losing.

And last night, my new, un-runover flag arrived and it is proudly flying on the passenger window of the Celica. So if we dont win tonight, nothing will save this team.

the same thing happened with my West Virginia car flag last year. It fell out of my window on the road the week they played Boston College. Well, the Mountaineers, who looked bound for a BCS bowl at that point, lose to BC for the first time ever at Mountaineer Field and go on to lost to Pitt in the Back Yard Brawl giving Pitt the BCS spot. Since then I have refused to put a car flag up for any team I support, it worked out well for the Mountaineers this year.

The flag survived the day, so that should be a good sign.

I wish I could say that I was going to survive until 10:30. *yawn*

That is a good first period....Lets keep it up and get this thing turned around. Kevyn Adams is not capable of only scoring one goal in a game apparently, fine with me.

And, TSN says we're 10-0 when leading after two periods. Too bad we're just leading after two periods in 10 out of 27 games though.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I had to stay up and watch this whole game, because I was so excited to see them playing the hockey that won them 9 straight games. KA is the man, and as soon as he scored the first goal I knew that wasnt going to be all from him. Did anyone see the interview where he told his kids to go to sleep? I wonder if they got to see his hat trick.

LaRose looked really good too, and Justin Williams man. He is like the guy that takes a beating for this team, and still manages to get some points. And a sweet goals by Staal and Hedican too.

Anyone notice that we scored twice on the Ducks PP?

I thought the 3rd period though the Ducks really dominated us, and if we had only had a 2 goal lead instead of that 4, there is no telling how the game would have ended.

And the car flag survived.
