Indictment of the team who set him up beautifully for both of his goals? Props to Vanek for finishing them, but he had plenty of help last night.
The premise that if Vanek isn't scoring, the team isn't winning is an indictment on the rest of the team, IMO.
I don't think it's reasonable to expect that Vanek has to be a top 5 scorer in the NHL for the Sabres to win.
This whole "the team doesn't win if Vanek isn't scoring" theory was started to bash Vanek.
To me, the theory should be about bashing the multiple passengers on this team that cause the team to lose when Vanek goes into a slump that happens to most players in the league.
And while Vanek got set up a couple times, how about his feed to Stafford for the easy goal?
Exactly. If he just got 4 points every night, we'd win more.
I know its sarcasm, but my main point is Vanek alone wont win us our cup and i hope Darcy is trying to make a trade package of some of secondary players, Roy, Stafford, Ennis, Boyes, picks, prospects...so we can get another 1st line type player in here.

That is my argument. They arent winning us a cup. The team isnt good enough. Vanek and Roy are our top 2 forwards, that is not winning you a cup. That needs to change.

btw i think that vanek would work beautifully with john tavares. aint never gonna happen, but i have been watching both of them play a lot and I can really see it.

That remains to be seen. In the past Regier could feed me the "Roy is a top 20 scoring center" and I would take it and say yeah, we cant do much better. But now with all the resources he has I expect Regier to take more risks with the roster.
Im just waiting for the ball to drop. One of these days we will see a player traded and we all will wonder why Darcy didnt make it.

The team I am eying is Carolina. They have centers. Their #1 prospect is a center, they have another top young center in Brandon Sutter, they have Staal, and Ruutu.
I would be on the phone daily with them trying to get a deal done.
