i hate to say it, because it's going to seem like a "knee jerk" reaction to a bad loss, but i think they need to make a trade. you need to push hard at a guy like shea weber, a guy who can realy solidify the defense and make the team more comfortable in their own end.
Weber would be the perfect fit, right shot, would make our PP even more deadly. Is physical and outstanding defensively.
Only thing is, is this team able to take another huge hit on the cap?
Keep in mind that JVR's contract clicks in next season, G will have to be resigned, you talk about a $7m hit per year. Weber could probably be fit in for $7m also if you go long in enough on term. Voracek's contract is also up after this season.
Throw the tape of this game away, and no knee jerk reactions. Let the boys fly to Colorado tonight and have the day off tomorrow to recharge their batteries. Get back out on the ice on Monday and have a good practice and get right back at it. There is always games like this for every team, just forget about it and move on.
Weber and Suter are a pipe dream at this point. I just dont see the Preds giving up on two players who have defined their franchise for the past 5 years. Now if they do put them out there, I think we have enough young talent to make it happen but its gonig to be a hefty price.
Jvr, Schenn and a first would be minimum they would want.
THat would hurt our future big time with, jagr hartnell, briere leaving soon.
So our awesome forward depth which makes us stand out would he hit hard and we would role 2 lines like every other team.
There's a post-game interview with Holmgren in the Couturier injury thread. But to centralize it, here is an update on the injuries and possible recall of players. Schenn and Giroux traveled to Colorado but will not play. Couturier is still hospitalized and undergoing tests for damage to the skull and/or internal damage.
“He said he didn’t feel too bad, but not all that great, either,” Briere said. “They’re tough breaks. I hope we get all of them out of the way now so that by the playoffs, we’re at full strength.”
Holmgren said that Couturier’s baseline scores were similar to what he had in training camp.
“I think what they are checking for now is damage to his skull,” Holmgren said. “And taking a look to see if there is any internal damage.”
The Flyers have three players currently concussed and out of the lineup: Chris Pronger (out for season), Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn. None of these concussions involved a dirty play or questionable hit.
The speedy Couturier’s influence can’t be understated. He averages 13:03 minutes a night and is one of their top penalty killers, logging 3:05 a game. His shorthanded average has been higher than Giroux’s (2:50) because he picked up added minutes with Giroux out.
Holmgren said he was uncertain if the club will call up a player. Giroux and Schenn made the trip to Denver on Saturday night, but won’t play in Denver or Dallas.
“We’re missing a lot of bodies right now and it’s too bad it’s another centerman,” Jaromir Jagr said. “There’s nobody left at center. We got three concussed centermen. It’s not easy. We gotta battle through.”
Although the Flyers have three centers injured now, Holmgren wasn’t sure if he would call up a forward from the Phantoms.
“We do have some flexibility and Matt Read can play center,” he said. “Obviously, Schenn and Giroux are not options here for the near future. We’ll have to talk about that.”
I don't think the hit was dirty, it was more a result of bad timing. I haven't seen any replays after the game, though, but that was my initial thought. He got kicked out to prevent any further shenanigans, I'd guess.
Does anyone agree? Maybe I should delete this post
