What will our team look like next season from top to bottom?
What will our team look like next season from top to bottom?
From GM to coaches to the players on the ice! What will we see going forward and since the core of the team has 3 or less seasons left on there contracts after this season, who is in and who is out?
I would love to see:
GM: Julien Brisebois
Assistant GM: ???
Head coach: Patrick Roy
Assistant coach: ???
Assistant coach: ???
Team:
Cammalleri - Plekanec - Doan
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Leblanc - Eller - Gionta
Hordichuk - Gaustad - Tootoo
White
Trade Kostitsyn, Diaz, Weber, Gomez and Moen at this seasons end if we are out of the playoffs, Kostitsyn's value will never be higher and Moen can be packaged with Diaz or Weber to a playoff team in the west, maybe Vancouver?
Julien Brisebois as GM? No thanks. Jim Nill or possibly if the Coyotes relocate, their GM/Coach tandem. Look at what they do with the smallest budget in the NHL.

As per Pierre McGuire (who is close with the Red Wings front office), Jim Nill has a clause in his contract stating that he cannot talk to/or leave to another team in the NHL and apparently he is making close to or over $1,000,000.00 a season as the AGM in Detroit.
So, no Jim Nill in Montreal + HE DOES NOT SPEAK FRANCAIS ;-)

Cheers to another 20 cupless years if we have that ridiculous French-only rule.
We'd draft on need every year and end up with a crap team in five years because Mr. McGuire didn't envision Carey Price leaving over being lowballed or PK Subban not wanting to sign a long term deal for 4 mill per season.
Please no more breaking in rookie NHL head coaches just because the guy used to play for us! Let someone else hire Roy first and we`ll take him on later in his coaching career after he`s got some NHL experience.

It's a good possibility that if the Yotes move to QC they'll be fired because they don't speak french, which means we can pick up Tippett.
For the GM though, look at Buffalo this season, their extra cap room resulted in giving a ridiculous contract to Leino. Some guys are better when they have to get creative when spending their money, I'd say Dale Talon is another one.

i disagree i dont think theirs any1 who knows more about the players in the league and i guarantee u he wouldve never touched players lik gomez and kaberle. i think hed b a great gm always like his insight on things tht happen around the league

Welcome to the site Mr. McGuire. I'm sure you would have been very popular right now if you drafted Brule over Price.
LOL @ Tinordi as #7. Do you even follow the kids development at all or anyone's for that matter or do you just constantly put junior level players in lineups for the sake of it?
Even as a #7 that's extremely naive if you think he'll be a #7 for us next year Even Beaulieu likely won't be and he has a much better shot.

This post is a great example of how easily people can be influenced by the media. The guy is a hockey analyst and quite frankly way too emotional. He's also made numerous bad decisions in the past but merely hypes up the things he's been right about to the point of lunacy. I'm not negating any of his past work in the NHL but come on, the guy is an absolute ****ing joke with no experience and this is the guy people want running our org?
I was actually happy WI didn't put him as our GM. People think this place is a circus now just wait until McGuire is our GM, we'll be the next Leafs of this league, bubble team looking in from the outside until he's fired.

So let's go after bob Mackenzie then!
I'd pg was a good gm option he would have been hired by someone. So many positions have been available over the years, some he even interviewed. He failed to get those jobs.
As for the subject, no idea, but I can tell you, there will be threads asking for firin or trades.
Mr. Molson should consider promoting Trevor Timmins to the position of Habs G.M. for the following reasons:
1. He holds 3 degrees: a graduate of Queen’s University in Physical Education; a Master of Business Administration (Queen’s) and a Master’s degree in Sports Administration at the University of Ottawa.
2. He has been and is responsible for both of the Hab’s summer development and rookie camps; oversees the development of the Canadiens prospects in Hamilton and the club’s amateur prospects; supervises the annual NHL combine, as well as the Canadiens’ own combine.
3. He has been overseeing and directing the Canadiens’ amateur scouting system, including the annual NHL Entry Draft and amateur free-agent recruitment.
4. He has held the positions of Scouting Coordinator, Strength and Conditioning Coach and Director of Team Services with the Senators as well as the team’s Director of Hockey Operations, responsible for their Scouting Department, their minor league affiliate, budgeting, and daily operation of their Hockey Department.
5. He is in his 11th season with the Habs and his 20th season in the NHL.
6. He is fluently bilingual.
7. He pays attention to his own physical fitness and is keenly aware of and concerned for our prospect's fitness as well.
I have read many comments from Hab's posters regarding losing great talent in our own backyard....Timmins is another talent...might we lose him, too, down the road? Make it happen Geoff!
To Montreal: Staal
--------------------------------
re-sign: Kostitsyn (3 years @ 3.5), Subban (4 years @ 3.5), Price (5 years @ 5), Gorges (3 years @ 3.3)
GM- Nill
(includes a complete overhaul of all hockey ops staff, only Timmins surviving)
Head Coach- Cunneyworth* IF he makes playoffs, or otherwise makes himself clearly the best man for the job during this "audition"
(if not, then Roy or Crawford end up as HC)

*perhaps Gomez will only leave montreal by buying burried in minors... so be it.
but looking at roster cap situations & needs, LA might actually be a possible destination.
they have ~15M$ in cap space for 2012 (not counting cap going up), with 19 players already signed.
Only significant player to re-sign = Stoll, replacing him with Gomez, and with Kopitar/Richards as other 2 centres, could make some roster sense. getting a pick in the process while only giving up a stalled prospect who is redundant given their prospect depth, makes it a low risk/high reward move.
all this, while realizing the odds are far more likely that he simply will have to be burried in the minors.
---------------------------------------
*Kaberle-Markov decision.
come the offseason, team must decide which player to keep, i don't think keeping both makes sense given their ~10M$ total cap hit.
if Markov comes back, and proves to be healthy, then we keep him and move Kaberle. If Markov is still not recovered, and is on LTIR, then we keep both, if Kaberle proves to be adequate replacement and Markov shows troubling signs upon his return, we move Markov.

2012 Draft:
Mtl 1st
SJ 1st
Chi 1st
NYR 2nd
either keep as is, drafting 4 players in top 60, or package some picks to move into top 10
right up to the cap & one of gionta/havlat will have to move by 2013 summer so that MaxPac can be re-signed, but otherwise, team has talent & depth to be a playoff team, and by 2013 or 2014 summer, influx of young talent (tinordi/beaulieu/gallagher/kristo/leblanc/bournival, + hopefully at least 1 of 2012 picks emmerging as young star in the making) gives us the cheap talent boost to the core guys we have signed to make us contender
Who the **** cares, every year is the same over the last 2 decades, same old question.
What about nx year?? ****in leafs are the same.
With good team managment the habs should be able to contend most years. Go outside and bring in the best people( english, french, german) for the game ,not hire ashed up **** from the past that use to play for the team.
The team has become acceptable losers !!!
I truly think that with one added defenseman that brings grit and toughness, like an Emelin clone, our defense next season is truly great, with or without Markov. Sure the distribution of money isn't ideal but the talent is there:
-Markov (self-explanatory if he comes back)
-Subban (in a sophomore slump but there's no debating his pedigree)
-Gorges (self-explanatory)
-Emelin (hits like a truck)
-Kaberle (the best PP2 quarterback in the league if Markov comes back)
-Emelin clone
I don't see room for Diaz unless Markov isn't back so make him the 7th. And we have Weber who's scored some big goals for us. It's debatable whether Weber / Diaz is better if we look at Weber's playoff performance last year. And the future is bright, we have Tinordi and Beaulieu on their way. Both could be with the team the year after next. And we have others like Darren Dietz.
At forward, we also have something special with the youth:
-Eller (he's coming on leaps and bounds)
-Desharnais (smallish but with two big wingers he fits)
-Pacioretty (power forward with size and speed)
-Leblanc (hometown boy and 1st rounder)
-White (gritty 4th liner)
And we have Kristo, Avtsin and Gallagher coming, and Palushaj (not sure if he'll cut it). Beyond that, the cupboard is bare up front.
And in their prime:
-Plekanec (on the elder side of youthful but he deservedly wore the A last night)
-Kostitsyn (finally coming around)
-Cammalleri (struggling at the moment)
-Nokelainen (turning 26 in January)
-Cole (I put him here so I don't have to put him in the expendable 30s section below lol)
And in their 30s:
-Gomez
-Gionta
-Moen
-Kaberle
-Gill
So who's expendable?
-Everyone in their 30s
-Cammalleri (I want to keep him but he fetches a great return)
What do we have?
-We have size up front: Cole, Pacioretty and Eller.
-We have a great D core if we can finally add Markov and the Emelin clone.
-We have some solid complementary players in their prime.
-We have Carey Price.
-We have youth.
What do we need?
-A true 1st line center with size.
-An Emelin clone.
-More forward prospects.
-Gritty 4th liners (do we have that with Moen and White?)
What can we offer? (keep our draft picks from this season - only send what we get)
-Can the players in our 30s and Cammalleri get us 3 first rounders?
-Who else is available - Palushaj, Weber, Diaz?
What can we get?
-Who in the league would be available if you offer 2 or at least 3 of those first rounders? Surely a franchise forward with size can be had with that.
-I'd focus all of our resources on Getzlaf / Brown / Regehr.
My offers:
-Plekanec, Weber, 1st (add a 2nd if it's a deal breaker) for Getzlaf
-Cammalleri for Brown, 2nd
-Regehr for 1st (excessive but we'd have the resources to guarantee the acquisition) OR Palushaj + 2nd
That gives us a forward group of:
Cole, Pacioretty, Getzlaf, Brown, Eller, Kostitsyn, Leblanc, White, Darche, Nokelainen, Desharnais and Palushaj.
Defense:
Markov (or Kaberle), Gorges, Subban, Regehr, Emelin and Diaz
This isn't meant to be a NHL 12 post. Who is untouchable and would we be willing to trade at what price? What could we yield without mortgaging the future? And by that I wouldn't touch our own draft picks. Only trade what we can get.
