my team

i'm in 04-05, strange though, there have been no issues with the CBA in the game

my first season went good, I played on easy level and had no problems in the regular season, but the playoffs were suprisingly tough, I won the cup, but barely over Minny. I decided to build my team around speed and checking and size, so through trades and free agents signings I have created this team:

Nash-Spezza-Jagr
Havlat-Lang-Bondra
Zubrus-Sutherby-Maltby
Salomanson-J. Lang (draft pick) -Peat

Morris-Bouwmeester
Gonchar-Eminger
Yonkman/Witt-Grand-Pierre

Kolzig
Ouellet

I traded all my picks last year except my 3rd rounder and I traded them all this year except my 1st to build this team. I also signed a couple of FA that didn't work into my system and then ended up trading them. From the original roster I traded Grier, Halpern, Kono, Berry, Doig, Cote, Nylander, and Miller. I know the roster I have is really far fetched, but thats why they make these games. I got about a quarter of the way through the 04-05 season and after winning games by 4 or 5 goals I decided to bump it up to the highest level of difficulty. There is a huge difference between that and easy level. In the one game I have played on that level I beat NYR 4-2. About 1/3 of my roster will be coming off their entry level contracts after next season, so I will be giving out some huge pay raises because most of those young guys are doing really well. Kolzig is going to be traded soon because Ouellet has developed very nicely. Eminger has as well. He has a great mix of talent and he does it all (speed, hitting, great fighter, and he can score).

can you actually tell the differnce in ability? or is it just in overall # the game gives your given player?

I haven't finished a whole season yet (in Dec. with the Avs) cause I found if I sim games...guys get hurt, and I never get notified of the injury or how long they will be out (and they never get hurt when I play)

for both eminger and ouellet I can easily tell that they have improved just by looking at the increase in their overall skill number, but I can also tell that they are better players because they play much better in the games. I have played every single game so far in my dynasty (around 130 games) and I can tell Eminger has improved alot. All aspects of his game have improved and his is projected to be a 98 overall, I doubt he gets that high, but I don't mid 80's is out of the question. I'm kinda of suspicious off all the players who have the potential to be 98's or 99's. I know they have good potential, but I don't think a player can become that good. I haven't seen anyone in my game higher than 90 overall, so it makes me wonder if a guy can really get up to 99, I guess you have to have really good coaching. As for Ouellet I start him in about 1 out of 4 games and always in one of back to back games. He's gotten alot better also, but he really needs to work on his stick handling.

the injuries in the NHL 2004 are really messed up. In my two years I have only had 4 guys get injured (Gonchar, Witt, Doig, Sutherby). None of their injuries have been major and none have been longer than 4 weeks. Also in my two years I have only injured two players (Yashin and Doan). It seems really hard to injure people because I am constantly flattening people and freight training guys with the bruise control but they always get right back up. I mean the toughest guys in the NHL couldn't tolerate the hits that I am dishing out. However, it seems like every other team in the league has 2 or 3 guys injured all the time. Also the injury reports blow. If a guy gets injured in a game all you get is a little message saying that he will be out for the game with a whatever injury, but you have to wait until after the game and wait for the stupid info bar to roll across the bottom of the screen to find out how long a guy is out for. I wish they would include it on the players profile somewhere, so you could just look and see how long he is out for.

I agree....there are alot of things I love in this game...but there are alot of things I would change if I could.

I wish you could go out...and post somewhere that you were looking to trade someone...or that you could negotiate with other GMs about trades and such (granted that would take alot of AI byt EA...buts its possible...you can negotiate contracts)

thats a good idea, it would be cool if that was possible. i also wish you could renegotiate contracts at anytime instead of just contract years.
