Well... ya. But one could argue it's because he's being played as a top pairing as practically a rookie.

Maybe switch Weber with Ellis and drop Petry? Or we could do Smithson straight up for Hall?

If it's draft day and we have the #1 overall again, maybe Nashville bites.

I could see Ellis being a good fit for the way the Oilers franchise is being built. I'd try to haggle your 3rd or 4th rounder to keep the picks even in that case.

Toronto gave Boston Seguin.

... but I think, a guy like Weber, who would then replace Petry, and allow a guy like Peckham to keep the bench a bit warmer, would do nothing but give us the edge we desperately need right now.

So what you're saying is Nashville is just giving Weber to Edmonton in your proposal?

They get Petry who is a sophomore player being played on the top-pairing with Whitney, and Edmonton's 1st round draft pick. Edmonton is currently 1 point out of the lottery.

I realize it's a bassackwards trade. But I think there's a bit of desperation on Edmonton's part to get out of the basement.

And on Nashville's side their cap concerns wash away and they get a serviceable 17-20m/night d-man out of it with future considerations as a top pairing + a 1st rounder that could be very good.

And you don't give up RNH, Hall, or Eberle, and that's really what Nashville wants to accomplish in this trade. We want Edmonton to be cup champions.

Not being sarcastic Petry is redundant with Josi and Blum and Ellis and Ekholm.

Not close to fair value for Weber. EDM needs to add.

Why make this deal, Weber looks like he's playing out his time till he becomes UFA and the Oilers will not be a cup contender until the year after. If I was Edmonton, I would have nothing to do with Weber unless he was signed to a long term contract. Even then it would cost a lot more then what the OP is offering, and that could cripple the teams rebuilding.

Only if Nashville is willing to add either a 34th round pick in the MLB draft or the rights to Chris Paul.

if they can't resign him, only way in hell they do that; and they would wait until about the deadline to do that trade anyways. It sucks because if edmonton will ever get good we need that guy on def

Might want to try Montreal or Buffalo. They have Webers that are probably available for that package.

Don't need to deal Weber at this deadline anyway, he's an RFA.

I don't understand why people think that Nashville is going to trade Weber this season. He will be a UFA after next season, so they have another whole season to extend him. Suter is a UFA after this season and will be the one that is traded or signed by the line.

My proposal:

To Nashville: Hemsky, MPS, conditional 2013-1st if Suter signs in Edm.

To: Edm: Suter

Edmonton Signs him with a huge front loaded contract and low cap hit before the next CBA disallows this. Similar to Pronger, Myers, Erhoff.

10 years 57.50 million(10,10,8,6,6,4,4,3,3,3.5)

If it's the draft day and we have #1 overall we'll simply draft a player of similar skills and sign him to an ELC. We'll be better off than trading for Weber.

This is frustrating for a non-Preds fan, I can't even imagine how bad it has to be for Preds fans. None of those deals are even close. I've said this in several other Weber/Suter threads but fans choose to ignore logic for the sake of their own fantasy's I guess.

The price for players of Weber or Suter's calibre even if they are upcoming UFA's has been established through the years from the handful of other deals that could be seen as comparable in talent level. The price for either Suter or Weber will be A YOUNG TOP 6 FORWARD OR TOP 4 D WITH 1ST LINE OR TOP PAIRING POTENTIAL, A 1ST ROUNDER AND 1 OF A TEAMS TOP PROSPECTS. This is the minimum with conditional picks added as needed.
