So why did they call up Erixon a few days ago? They said they called him up just in case Eminger couldn't play on the road trip.

Probably because both Woywitka & MDZ were a bit banged up (Lefties). Erixon is a lefty too. Torts is very adamant about replacing righties with righties & lefties with lefties...
And probably because we face local rivals in a few upcoming games that have all the makings of getting ugly as well. Bickel is a thug - he will fit in nicely against NJD & Philly...

He played the right side when he was here in October. He said he felt comfortable.
And he looked comfortable.

That explanation makes little sense.

The Rangers have made good personnel decisions. But this one isn't one of them.

Bickel is terrible. Barely an AHL caliber defenseman, was in the ECHL last year...

Maybe he'll surprise, but I'm not expecting anything.

The coaching staff obviously doesnt think Erixon is ready for consistent NHL minutes. And, when you look at the last few games he played earlier this season, I cant really blame them.

Its one thing to bring a kid up, have him hang out/practice with the team. Its a completely different thing to potentially comprimise a kid's development simply because you need him to play while you have multiple defensemen out for weeks.

Im not confused or outraged at the decision.

Maybe the Rangers figure this call up is only going to be temporary (or don't know how long it will be) and would rather Erixon get steady playing time in CT rather than keep having to flip flop between teams?

1 game as opposed to 20, I guess.

Bickel wont play much. He and Woywitka will likely be under 10 a game for the most part.

Stralman becomes a top 4 guy on this team, and Danny G goes direct back to 30 minutes a night.

Thats the key right there.

Whats the benefit for Erixon's development to come in an play less than 10 minutes a night?

This right here. Erixon needs to play a lot of minutes, he is still trying to acclimate to smaller rinks and bigger opponents. Plus, with such a high ceiling and so little experience it is important to keep his confidence up to get the most out of his development.

Given the development of MDZ, Sauer and McDonagh I have faith that the management between the NHL and AHL no what they're doing with the young defencemen.

I guess...sigh

This defense is going to ****.

Get used to seeing a lot scrambling around in their own zone...and quality scoring chances for the opponent.

Who knows what lineup they will go with next game. It's possible Erixon will be in.

What is it with this organization and valentenko? Does this guy hang out with Avery or something. Hes got a heavy shot and hits alot which we severely lack on our blueline. He's been on the fringe for awhile and finally opportunity comes up and he's passed over for stu Bickel? Any ct whale fans can chime in if he's played that badly?

He can throw down for sure. Busted up a Bridgeport goon's nose on Friday. If this means 12 minutes on the 3rd pair and not having Prust fight Boulton and that fool Janssen, I'm all for it.

Dan Girardi started his career in the ECHL and towards the end of the next year he was on the Rangers. Bickel is not going to be the next coming of Girardi but Torts must like something in his game as he was practically the last player cut in training camp. He will add some toughness. That could come in handy against the Flyers and the Devils. Definitely expect bottom pairing minutes like what Woywitka gets and maybe a tad less.

As for Erixon maybe they don't think he's ready to play a physical team like the Flyers. Considering also that Stralman is not a physical player and Del Zotto though aggressive is undersized they might think Bickel fits better for now.

I believe there is a blackout period between sending to minors and bringing back up in the nhl. So Erixon has to wait to be recalled

Avery is a matter of time to be waived. they need the 1.9 cap space..............so with that can Erixon be officially recalled tomorrow given the "blackout" and if so does he even fit the cap right now?
